Nothing too major. Just some good deals, from time to time.
At Hastings: $17.99 - RoboCop (just last Friday!) $17.99 - M 2-disc (2nd week out) $5.99 - Royal Tenenbaums At Gamestop/EB: $11.99 - Armageddon $22.99 - Fanny & Alexander 5 disc $10.99 - Time Bandits $10.99 - Beastie Boys Anthology $10.99 - Port of Shadows $4.99 - Diabolique Bought some large lots off of this board, and Ebay both. Have about 60 Criterions, and my average spent on each, is $15.24 - I'm pretty happy. I started collecting them about 2 months ago, picking up ones that seemed interesting or had heard about, first. I'm just buying them as I come across them cheap though. Even the ones I want more badly than others, I won't pick up until I can find a deal. |
A fellow came into my store 2 weeks ago with 50 or 60 DVD's,and in the lot were Rushmore & Chasing Amy.
I paid $200.00 total for all of them,so for these 2 on the average I paid......Ummm,....Hmmmm.A few bucks. |
The Rock $11.99 or so (Best Buy pricematch of Media Play ad)
Silence of the Lambs $12.99 (Used, after it went OOP) Armageddon $11.99 (Used) Purchased used. None had a case or insert: High and Low $5 Insomnia $5 Hiroshima Mon Amour $3 Cleo From 5 to 7 $6 I have to say that my best deal was Seven Samurai from Reel.com. I can't remember the exact price, but I believe it was $12-$17. It is the first printing with the restoration demonstration. |

Problem is at GameStop there is only one sku for say Traffic, which is $6.99 or so... so whether its Criterion or not the employees there just mark it at $6.99 which is how everyone is getting these deals, they do not indivudalize sku's for special edition dvd'... At MovieStop however, they acknowledge this difference anc charge $26.99 for Traffic: Criterion because they know its value and have a more advanced sku system for its dvd's... So when movies are traded in to GameStop, soon they will be shipped into local MovieStops to maximize profits... -JP |
It would have to be the Overstock deal. $9.99 each for:
Seven Samurai The Red Shoes The Third Man Black Narcissus I Know Where I'm Going L'Avventura W.C. Fields: 6 Short Films All That Heaven Allows |

I found a used Robocop in perfect condition for $7.99 CAD (that's about $6 for you Americans!)
I also picked up Hamlet for $15 CAD at EB. and Silence of the Lambs and Straw Dogs for $20 bucks each |
A while back a friend ordered the single disc edition of Brazil and was mistakenly sent the 3-Disc Criterion set.
|
One of the earliest disks I bought online was This is Spinal Tap for about $12.
I also got Silence of the lambs as part of 800.com's 3 for $1 deal, so 33 cents for that one! Also got a bunch of deals when Reel.com was still around and they constantly had mad coupons. |

Life of Brian (not counting freedvds.com) |
A couple years ago, I traded a friend of a friend my The Killer (Fox-Lorber) and Deuce Bigalow:Male Gigolo for his The Killer: Criterion Collection.
I was totally honest with him, telling him that it was worth a hell of a lot more than mine, but he said he didn't care. :) |
bought Dead Ringers (legitimate copy) off eBay late last year for about $15.

There is no benefit to me to make up such a story. There are many threads on this board going back over several years in which the poster has found a true collectors item for a great price. Furthermore, there are several threads on just The Killer Criterion dvd and how to differentiate a bootleg from a legitimate copy. Believe what you want...
just a heads up.....according to Jon Mulvaney from Criterion "The color of the center ring is not a reliable indicator of authenticity." but that's kind of beside the point. |

Oops, my bad.. I keep thinking that it is just because of the ridiculous packaging, the extras, and the video/audio quality. I'm a tit. |
used an Amazon coupon for a copy of Kagemusha and paid only 6 bucks.
|
I remember hitting the refresh page every minute at work when Overstock was selling criterions for $10. Didn't do as well as D-Ball, but I got Sullivan's Travels and All that Heaven Allows.
|
I got Hard Boiled at a garage sale last year for 75 cents.

Also at Gamestop Diary of a Chambermaid for 7.99 used At Tower Records Gimme Shelter for 9.99 used Fanny & Alexander (box set) $29.99 new from Best Buy, the price at the register was 54.99, but the price tag which said Fanny & Alexander had a 29.99 price. |
