I wonder if this is really for the future HD/BR DVDs? Although they will likely have a new encryption/protection I wonder if they are already planning for the time when someone cracks the new encryption/protection on the HD/BR dvds????

In order to get rid of video pirates they need to come up with something that would make it non-profitable to copy movies. Like maybe make the movies and players soooooo cheap like $5 and less for movies and $10 for players (or even less) and make sooooooo damn many of them it wouldn't be worth even making a back up copy of the stupid thing.

You'd think that after studios starting doubling their gross on nearly every theatrically-released movie, they would kibosh this nonsense from the getgo. Talk about market killers. Not to mention the growth in DVD outlaws.

a) why do they care if people let friends BORROW their dvds - isnt the point to try and prevent people from copying them?
b) if all it takes is a password, then that wont stop anything - if i let my friend borrow a dvd, i just give him the password, right?

the only good thing that can come from this is those who hate lending out dvds now have one helluva reason not to.
