I wonder if this is really for the future HD/BR DVDs? Although they will likely have a new encryption/protection I wonder if they are already planning for the time when someone cracks the new encryption/protection on the HD/BR dvds????
Regardless.......what a stupid idea.

In order to get rid of video pirates they need to come up with something that would make it non-profitable to copy movies. Like maybe make the movies and players soooooo cheap like $5 and less for movies and $10 for players (or even less) and make sooooooo damn many of them it wouldn't be worth even making a back up copy of the stupid thing.

You'd think that after studios starting doubling their gross on nearly every theatrically-released movie, they would kibosh this nonsense from the getgo. Talk about market killers. Not to mention the growth in DVD outlaws.

a) why do they care if people let friends BORROW their dvds - isnt the point to try and prevent people from copying them?
b) if all it takes is a password, then that wont stop anything - if i let my friend borrow a dvd, i just give him the password, right?

the only good thing that can come from this is those who hate lending out dvds now have one helluva reason not to.
"sorry bob, you cant borrow this dvd - requires my fingerprint...and im not cutting off my finger so you can watch star wars"

The idea itself is ludicrous. But even if you get beyond that, which you can't, requiring people to buy new players makes it even more absurd.
The people working on this are wasting their time.

I will never support a technology that ties my purchased media to my DNA or fingerprint that's just fucking stupid. I guess if I die my DVD collection has to go in the trash since no one could watch any of them without me.

To my wonderful daughter, I leave my right index finger, the living room dvd player, and my collection of britcoms
To my son, I leave my right pinky, the bedroom dvd player, and my Farscape dvd's.
To Aunt Mildrew, I leave my right middle finger and the 12 fruitcakes in my freezer.

PLUS what happens if I buy a DVD as a gift for my brother? His biometric won't match mine. He;ll need me to come and start the DVD.
This will never EVER happen no matter how much as the greedy fucks in charge want it to.
