I have no problem with double dipping. More choices for the consumer is always a good thing. I've upgraded on many titles and passed on many titles. I say keep them coming.

I'd much rather them re-release a dvd that actually warrants it, ie True Lies (R1), instead of something like The Day After Tomorrow, which already has DTS/DD and 16x9.

Studios have every right (if not an actual obligation to their stockholders) to maximize the return from their investment, and "new" will outsell "old" every time, except in the antiques market. I have no problem with this. Some variation on selling "new and improved" has been used to sell nearly every consumer product since the beginning of commerce.
Consumers have every right (if not an actual obligation to themselves) to make informed choices about what to buy and what not to buy. If you thought the original release was inadequate in some way, then why did you buy it? If you felt you were getting your money's worth and were satisfied, then what's your beef? DVDs are luxury goods. We don't need them. We only want them. RichC |

I've got a question. What're the possibilities of a thread listing all of the announced special editions (ultimate editions, director's cuts, or whatever) of films that have already been released...or of films that will soon be released, but will be getting a stair-step release with the SE?
The list wouldn't be ridiculously long. Every time a title or two were announced, one or two from the list will have been released and can then be deleted. As such, the list would never grow to mammoth proportions, it would only evolve. That way, those of us who were heading out to buy such and such release could check in on the sticky'd list to see if there had been a Special Edition announcement. I don't doubt that somebody has mentioned this before...but I figured it'd be worth a shot. I tend to take a week or two off at a time, but I'd be more than happy to start the initial thread and update the main list everytime somebody posted a new announcement in the thread. And if ever I'm away from the internet for a week or so, people can either check the most recent posts, or a moderator can update the list. Would anybody beside me find this to be a really, really useful tool? I don't know of anywhere on the net that has such a list (without having to sift through every other upcoming release announcement). But then again, I'm fairly new to incorporating the internet with my DVDisms, so that may be out there also. -JP |
