Saw this in an issue of Video Business and says that it's coming out 4th qtr as will Mr and Mrs. Smith, and Fantastic Four.

these double-dips are beginning to piss me off.

jeesh, they already have speculative dates for Mr and Mrs. Smith, and Fantastic Four - well that saves me some extra bucks and time.

How do speculative dates for Mr and Mrs. Smith and Fantastic Four save you time and money?

I guess he wasn't sure they were going to get released on DVD,so he was going to watch them in the theater...

well let's see, I can still list them in my 2005 Film list. If there not playing near my home I don't have to worry about the cost of the subway ride to and from the theatre ($3), or factor in the amount of popcorn/drink that I usually buy ($8). I don't have to endure the mindnumbing pre-film ads.

The summer blockbusters are usually out on DVD before christmas time.

You just have to learn how to ignore the double-dips that you don't really need. Like in this case, I thought Napolean Dynamite was pretty funny, but do I really need to see any more special features than I've already seen on the original DVD? No, so I just keep my original DVD and don't worry about it.

I agree. Now-a-days I ask myself if the extras will REALLY be worth the extra expense. Most of the time the answer is no.

I hear the special edition will have deleted scenes of Napoleon staring into space and looking glazed over and grumbling some more.

Actually I'm the same way. I rarely double-dip, unless it's for something I really want. But as a completist and collector, it gets frustrating.

So if those DVDs were coming in, say, January 2006, then you would spend whatever extra money to see them in the theatre? :confused:

I wonder if book collectors have this problem. You know, like when they release a new edition of a book. Its the same story inside but its just in a new cover...hmmmm.

That's not really the same since double dips, by their very nature, don't have the same stuff inside.
A better comparison would be books re-released with say author's annotations (like my copy of The Hobbit), extended edition (like SK's The Stand) or a new translation of, say, Beowulf.
You have to look at those features, usu depending on reviewers, to see if they're worth your while.


Haven't bought Napoleon yet, keep meaning to watch it, maybe I'll PPV it or something and wait.

I'm glad I held off on buying this for now, I can't wait for the SE.

I have never double dipped before, and I think that only if this is a 2-discer with spectacular extras will i consider. I refuse to give in to the studios.

I don't own the available version (I seem to be the only one in my family and circle of friends), but I didn't think there was a whole lot else that could've been done with it. The extra material seemed to be enough.

This smells more like a cash-in than anything else, so I will hold off.

I completely agree. However, double dips still piss me off based on principle.

Maybe they are doing it because it has sold so well on DVD and there is apparently a huge market for this.

I won't buy this because I already have the original one, but I won't bitch too much about it either.

I'll be buying it regardless.
