No Time for Sergeants: Is there a reason this isn't on DVD yet?

With the release of A Face in the Crowd, it got me thinking about this classic. I've loved this film ever since I first saw it years ago, so earlier today I decided to see if any version of this one is on DVD anywhere, and I found out that the answer is a big fat no. Is there a specific reason this one isn't out yet, or is it just a matter of them just not getting to it yet, like so many other classics.

no news that I have heard....vhs copies run between 30-100 bucks these days. rhino put it out once on vhs, as did warner bros. No idea who is holding the rights at this time. i had heard henstooth (who released the private eyes, and the prize fighter) had planned on releasing it some time ago, but that never came to be...

Warner owns the rights. I asked Andy Griffith about this when I interviewed him recently, and a Warner rep jumped in the conversation to say, "We're working on it!" So that would be the latest news. No other info yet.

Thanks a lot guys! This place is unreal, it seems that whenever anyone asks a question about any DVD being released, someone here has some sort of real answer, heh.

It's a crime that this one hasn't been released yet, yet we see second and third and even fourth releases of movies that will barely be remembered a few years from now.

Is there any news on this title yet? If not, who can I contact to express my desire for a release?

I'd get No Time if they would release it. What's the deal?

I just asked about this in the Warner Brothers chat at HTF:

Brent_Lumkin Thank you so much for this WB. Do you guys have any plans to finally release the classic 1958 Andy Griffith film "No Time for Sergeants" on DVD? I don't believe it's ever been officially released on DVD, not in R1 or anywhere else in the world. I feel it would be a shame to not see this classic comedy on DVD while some of the remaining cast members are still alive, in order to maybe have some nice extras included as well. Unfortunately, we've already lost Don Knotts. Please tell me that there isn't a rights issue keeping this one from hitting DVD. Thanks again! DONE

WARNER We're actively working on releasing NO TIME FOR SERGEANTS...it's just going to take a little more time. Andy Griffith has personally requested we release it, and we don't want to disappoint him or any of this great comedy's many fans. DONE

While not an exact answer, at least we know that they are indeed working on it.

It could be that Griffith's health issues the past year have slowed this down. Didn't spend some time in the hospital for a broken hip or some similar injury?

Heck, if it wasn't for me just seeing a random post by you in a totally unrelated thread where you mentioned that you were following the chat, I wouldn't have remembered that it was even taking place tonight. So thank you for that.

Its been well over a year later since BRENT L ask the question and still no DVD.

Hopefully it'll make it out 2009 with Bonus features that have Andy talking about the movie.

Ugh, almost three years later and still nothing.

Not to sound too morbid, but they're going to fool around and Andy's going to get really sick or possibly pass away and then they wont be able to feature him on any extras for it (unless they've already done all of that).

What I would have loved is a commentary track, or at least some sort of feature, with both Andy and Don Knots, but it's already too late for that one.

Hurry it up already!

Well they've got eight months left if they don't want to blow their 50th Anniversary Edition.

I have faith it'll be released... sometime. At least it's on their radar. And it would be great to have it on it's 50th anniversary.
