DVD Talk Limited Edition
I'm with you slop101, the packaging is fine. I will order the other cardboard box just for shelf and put this head case on top with the other collectable stuff.

but you're not entitled to the DVD set....it's not a right....
looks like Fox is hitting the nail on the head with choice of customers...a few here certainly fit each selection!!!!

Damn! I can't buy this thing for a week or two. Hopefully the replacement case is available for a while.
Unless someone has $30 I can borrow.

I picked up mine today. WOW! I thought you guys were just being babies. But everyone complaining has a very legitimate reason to whine. This packaging is absolutely horrible. The picture looked nice but its just so cheap. And the inside DVD holder is just 4 jewel cases with scotch tape holding them together. What the heck were they thinking?
Anyway, i'll do the order form because, even though i'm not anal at all about my dvd collection, i'll open this box enough that its going to break within a month.

Got my set last night and called the 800#. It had a recorded message that prompted me to go to the www.simpsonsbox.com site. Mailing in the color card with the phone number is all that is required (and the $$$), seemed worth the effort to me. I didn't particularly care for the box and am glad to have the oppurtunity to get a 'standard' box. Yes, I chose anal-retentive as my reason...

Just called the 800 number and apparently it is now correct (maybe Fox bought off the number from the accounting firm?). At any rate, there is a voice (poor impersonation of Homer) that will re-direct you to simpsonsbox.com (a mildly funny bit, but a very very poor impersonation of Homer).

I just got mine at best buy, almost all of them had the outside plastic sleeve cracked in some place or another. I will admit that it does grab your attention when you see it... but I think that may be all it has going for it. I had already filled out my order form for the box last night so i opened the head up on the way to the post office and mailed off my 2.95 with the slip.
I hope for the next season they put both versions up on the market. Or at least give one or two retailers the option of selling the normal box.
BTW did anyone else get a "DVD" sticker put over where it was susposed to say DVD Collector's Edition at the top? The sticker is black with a red border and the "DVD" is in yellow. I'm tempted to pick it off and see what's underneath.....

*Yes, I realize this is an acronym but I'll make an exception.

To be more specific the stuff you fill out online becomes the order form that you print out.

The thing is that it says "DVD Video" underneath it's just smaller and more in line with the rest of the text. It looks much better without it.
I don't know why they felt at the last minute it needed to be bigger..???

It's in the mail... here's hoping this turns out better than my LOTR box...

I just got the Canadian version of this DVD, with the only noticable difference being the bilingual English/French packaging. I have a question though;
There's a sticker on Homer's face, that says that it's, "The Complete Sixth Season." It also has some writing in French, about what it is (ie. the same thing in French that is in English.) However, usually these things are actually on the box and are not stickers. Is it supposed to be taken off..?

Two notes:
a) It's obvious by Fox's response that they don't view their packaging change as a "mistake". They're probably trying to appeal to people who don't have seasons 1-5 with something eye-catching. This is just an attempt to please both crowds, those who care what it looks like next to 1-5, and those who care what it looks like when they show Brother Joe their cool new D-V-D.
b) I'm shocked by some responses...they're doing something nice to prevent burning bridges, and we still hate them for it? Keep in mind all the horrible studio choices that are never corrected...(who thinks they'll fix House?)
side note: How many DVDtalkers that swear never to buy another disc from a particular studio actually do it? It seems that you'd forget after a month or two.

I don't see how anyone can be mad at Fox. They tried something different, but are still giving you the old style for $3 if you don't like it. If anything Fox should be applauded for the way they have handled this. As far as the website upsetting people. Its obviously meant to have a Homer attitude about things. How can anyone upset by this be so devoid of humor and still want to buy the Simpsons in the first place.

Not to mention the whole plastic head thing is a ploy to get people to buy the whole "set" from season six to ten, when everyone knows the show started to suck royal after season eight and nobody's gonna buy them otherwise!!! Well, guess what...I, for one, am not gonna waste money on this shameless thing, whereas if they kept the original packaging, I'd be first in line at Fry's this morning!
At least my old VHS tapes from the original broadcast are still in good condition. (Am I allowed to use the V-word in this forum?)

Fox is not making any money on selling the extra box. The $3 covers shipping charges not to mention the costs of setting up the website, processing the forms, the minor cost of the actual boxes, etc.
They may have had the original boxes made first so they want to use them, but offering the original box is hardly a ploy to make more money off of Simpson's fans.
