Interesting pic over at buy.com:

It's just stand-in art, but maybe it's a sign.... Personally I think it's too soon for black, we need green and yellow at least.

if that's close to what the art will look like, it's pretty damn cool

No way, I'd be pissed if after five matching boxes they messed up the continuity between them and switched to a new packaging style.

There's little to no chance of that actually being the cover art, thankfully. Black is classy, but a bit boring compared to other seasons.

This will be the second-to-last Simpsons season set I'll be buying. I'm stopping after season 7.

Eh, the show certainly declines more and more after seasons 5 or 6... but I'll still buy The Simpsons in season sets because each seasons afterwards still does have memorable episodes.

Um...although you apparently can't see it if you go to the page itself, when I look at Simpsons: Season Six in my Wish List at Amazon, there's some...strange cover art available. If this is actually the artwork, then it seems to be a big departure from the usual design. But then, since I can't see it any closer and since it's not available at the page itself, it may just be a place holder. Does anyone else see it?

Props to the design team on this bald, er...bold move. I'm kinda dumbfounded, I would never have guessed the redesign would be this. I feel another Total Recall shelving mishap approaching, only I can't take this one apart...

This is one I personally can't comment on til I'm holding it for myself!

Well there goes continuity... All well... Will have to wait-and-see on this new design. Maybe the regular case is inside and the homer head packaging is just a collectable thing? That'd be cool.

There better be a regular size set inside Homer's head.

How interesting. I wouldn't mind though if the next 5 seasons came in a different shaped head for each of the characters. That does just look like some sort of slipcover however, as you can see the grooves for the corner of a rectangle shaped box.

Simpsons, The - Homer Has Your DVDs
Posted by Gord Lacey
6/20/2005

Fox has just sent us the box art for The Simpsons: Season 6, and it's very cool. The DVDs will come inside Homer's head, but don't worry, we've been assured it'll fit on your bookself.

There are plans to release seasons 7-10 in the heads of the other family members, though we don't know what order they will be in. Enjoy the artwork!

I was looking at S1-S3 tonight and thinking how much I loved those cases. I hope this change isn't too much. It'd be nice to see what's under the cover. Thanks for the link, BTW.

Perhaps the last few season sets have dipped in sales and the marketing dept is trying to add some more excitement to these later releases. Certainly these will stand out more on the shelf to the average joe.

The Bart head should look good, but I don't know how well the others are going to translate... Hmm...
