I'll wait for a bit too. Good movie, but I want to see the whole story.

How bout calling this the "Rent, Don't Buy: Special Edition"

This shows how things have changed the way movies are made. From the initial news it sounded as if they had shot stuff just for a dvd release which is annoying for theatergoers.

They could have made the souped up Kill Bill version any time over the past year and a half, the story's over and done with; the only reason to delay it is to get more money. So it's put on the backburner till the buys and rentals have fizzled out. So it's just a matter of time when to leak it so Q gets to put more change under his mattress.

Sin City is already greenlit for sequels so you'd have to wait for new scripts, novelizations, etc. So even if Rodriguez shoots fast, there is a long year ahead to wait. (And there's no way the extended version is released over a month before the first sequel)

I'd be happy for just a sliver of news of it, before the year is out. But I won't hold my breath.

Yocke 05-13-05 02:13 PM

Actually, all the books are already written, and they just shoot exactly how it looks in the books. They could start shooting the new movies tomorrow if they wanted. The thing that takes the longest is the post production, where they have to put in all the backgrounds and stuff.

Big Worms 05-13-05 02:23 PM

I will rent this one and wait for the SE version, but I am sure afraid that I will be waiting a long time. We shall see.

I'll be happily buying this release. You go ahead and wait and while you do let me know how the Adaptation Special Edition is going.

atari2600 05-13-05 09:37 PM

never saw it...wanted to...cant wait to buy it!

QuiGonJosh 05-14-05 04:12 AM

Cool cover! I loved the flick, so I'll be buying it ASAP! Awesome movie + DTS = Must Buy! :D

Same with Kill Bill. I've had no temptation to buy the barebones of those yet.

I too am one that can wait a few years on this one without feeling any pangs to have to see it again. For my experience it was a great movie-going event, but I do not expect it to do much for me on DVD until I start forgetting some of what happens in the movie.

Yep, I'll be patient w/ this purchase as well.

fumanstan 05-14-05 10:06 AM

I'm a bit iffy on waiting for a special edition to come out. If rumors have one coming out a few months later, i'd happily wait, however if it takes a year like Kill Bill i'd probably pick up a barebones release.

Nickofdoom 05-14-05 12:28 PM

I've definately gotten my money's worth out of the Kill Bill movies, so I'll pick it up. I really loved this movie, so I don't mind double dipping. Hell, I already double dipped on the Graphic Novels b/c my old ones were all messed up.

Romerojpg 05-14-05 12:37 PM

Or we can just get the Japanese Exteded Multidisc Limited Edtion?

as just becasue america doesnt get a extras packed special edtion, does not mean other regions wont :) its happening more and more it seems, so you never know.

Over in the movie forum, someone posted Rodrigues commissioned Miller for MORE novels since most were worried that the remaining books do not have enough depth, at least for 2 more sequels. So with a couple movies he's working on now, this will be a longer wait than originally thought.

I wouldn't mind if this was a small delay like with the Hellboy releases, but this looks like they're gonna milk this for as much as it's worth.

DeanoBKN 05-15-05 04:13 PM

Just saw this the other night. Pretty cool flick. Sucks that is it barebones, but that hasn't stopped me in the past from buying a movie, and it won't stop me now. Considering this will be $15.99 or so the first week, I could probably resell it for $7-8 once the SE comes out, so it won't be that hard on my wallet.

Big Worms 06-17-05 02:17 PM

From dvdanswers.com 4 different slipcovers that are going to be available.

Groucho 06-17-05 02:21 PM

I think I'll get the cover that features a dude standing with a hot chick.

ReduxGuy 06-17-05 02:44 PM

Damn! Which one to get?!

I'll probably get Marv/Goldie.

dadaluholla 06-17-05 02:46 PM

Yep, I'm getting that one with the hot girl and the dude. I loved the movie so I'll probably get this first version on the first day it comes out. I don't really care about a special edition. I never watch deleted scenes or "making of" extras or listen to the commentary anyway.

fumanstan 06-17-05 03:03 PM

Jessica Alba. No contest.
