So the current release (with both versions) isn't good enough? I haven't seen it, so what do y'all think of it? (I've seen the movie, on a ratty library VHS)

As I noted last year, I love the current DVD of The Big Sleep. Having both edits on one disc - along with a documentary covering the history of the movie and the differences in the two edits (including detailing all the re-shoots), makes for a very nice DVD package.

I still want All Through the Night, Conflict, and just about all of Bogie's movies from 1936 on. Warners could easily market the lesser known titles as double features like the Val Lewton Collection DVDs. Market them under the Humphrey Bogart Collection banner, and they'll sell.

I'm excited that we are going to see Across the Pacific and Action in the North Atlantic this year. There are still a lot of great Bogart movies waiting for release on DVD.

Is this a collection of already released versions or are any of these new dvds?? Amazon has a great preorder price .

ViewAskewbian 04-14-06 10:10 AM

Yes, this is the same cover of the set that was supposed to be released in November of last year. The article I read on the set had no mention of remasters, though.

Arghhh! I thought the whole reason for the delay was there was supposed to be some new transfers on at least one of these! Why the delay if no new DVD's?

Cameron 04-14-06 10:28 PM

same disc....not even sure if they are going to do keep cases or not. Warner stated they have no plans to update any of the previously released bogie titles except maltese falcon.

i traded off my disc, and came out ahead with the amazon price

went to the digital bits today and this is what i saw:

Also newly announced by the studio are new DVD versions of The Big Sleep, Dark Passage, Key Largo and To Have an Have Not for 7/25 (SRP $19.97 each). By the way, those Bogart and Bacall films are individual releases of the same discs that are included in the forthcoming Bogie & Bacall: The Signature Collection box set. Amazon has the set due on 4/25 (SRP $39.92), but Warner doesn't have it in their official release database yet. For that reason, we believe the set will be released on 7/25, with the individual discs. We'll let you know for sure as soon as Warner confirms this.

The digital bits also mentioned Black Legion either being in consideration for release or already in production. This was wrote back in January, so it MIGHT be in the upcoming 2nd Bogie collection.

New versions???
The plot thickens...

Well in the Home Theater Forum chat, Warners said they had no plans to revisit the Bogie titles that had been mastered from restored prints -- which includes the four films with Bacall. I hope these are just keepcase reissues -- if the current discs are good, there's no sense wasting time on redoing them when they could be working on a John Garfield, Jean Harlow, or second Erroll Flynn set.

shearerchic 04-16-06 12:41 PM

personally, i think they'll just be keepcases. i don't think they would revisit those films when they're already doing a 2nd bogie set.
