Pirates of Silicon Valley (8/30)

From the Digital Bits (just keep following):

Also just announced for 8/30 from Warner is the BBC's The Funny Blokes of British Comedy and a pair of made-for-cable films (SRP $19.98 each), including The Librarian: Quest for the Spear and Pirates of Silicon Valley.

That's right: PIRATES OF SILICON VALLEY is finally coming to DVD! Rejoice!

Nice!!! I have been waiting for this one a long time. There was a thread I started awhile back about how this should be released on dvd. This is a very pleasant surprise.

Just saw this on The Digital Bits and did a double take. Been waiting forever. Love this movie. This is the best news. Thank you, Warner! Here's hoping for a great treatment. August 30, baby!

Pirates of Silicon Valley should be 4:3, yes. Unless it was filmed 16:9, then panned and scanned for its television presentation. But I don't know of any information to suggest that.

As I recall, The Librarian: Quest for the Spear was 16:9 when it aired on TNT, so its DVD should be that.

Interesting bit of trivia...

John Di Maggio, who played future Microsoft chairman Steve Ballmer in Pirates, also did voice work on Futurama (Bender and various other characters) and Star Wars: Clone Wars (General Grievous). From what I can see on IMDb, his career consists primarily of voices.

This and "Trackdown" (former "Takedown") and its "Freedom Downtime" counterpart are great hacker films...

I just went to preorder POSV and it is almost $15 even at DDD. This seems high for a made for TV movie. I preordered The Late Shift for $5.99 at DDD. I don't think the POSV was that much more to produce than The Late Shift. Anyone seen POSV for cheaper than $14 and change? I will be getting this dvd either way but though it was odd that it was that much money.

You guys are forgetting the movie, Sneakers as well. Between that, Takedown and this movie you've got the best of the best.

I'm guessing it was the licensed music that was holding up the DVD all this time. Then again, all the original music better still be there.

Better late than never.
