DVD Authority visitors...

Does it bother you how much
www.dvdauthority.com

changes their layout?

Randy Miller III 04-14-05 05:50 PM

Geez, they changed it <i>again</i>?! Yeah, that's pretty annoying...

It bothers me more that the last two incarnations have been terrible. It gives me a headache just to read that. White text on multiple colors of background? No thanks. Used to be one of my favorite DVD Review websites, but I rarely even bother anymore because it's such a terrible design now.

DVDAuthority.com is one of my favourite sites.

However, that new layout design and colour (faeces (shit), brown, beige, cream and magnolia) is poor and looks terrible on my 1600x1200 desktop:

I suppose they could always rent out all that extra space :D

Well, it's my site and I get sick of looking at the same thing day in and day out so I like to change it up and keep it fresh. I'm open to suggestions if anyone has any...

Some suggestions:
-Have a number score like you used to have.
-A screenshot from the DVD
-Menu presentations (brief explanation)
-Make me a reviewer -smile-
other than that keep up the good work !

Never heard of the site before. Just had a quick look and the colour scheme is awful. They're not really helping out those of us who are colour blind. I can barely see the scores due to the poor choice of colours :(

Changing the layout occasionally is a good idea, but not when it means sacrificing functionality and aesthetics. I like your reviews a lot, but now it's horribly colored tiny text and it's just too hard for me to read the way it is at the moment. I hope you can find a way to make it easier on the eyes, because it will be a shame to have to lose one of my favorite DVD review sites.

i like the site alot, especially that it changes designs every now and then.. this new one doesn't show up properly in my Mozilla 1.7 though.. the black box that's supposed to be behind the review text only covers a little bit up top.. in IE (EW!) it works properly, but no one should ever make sites that only work for IE. considering Mozilla is a relatively fresh browser, you might want to check out what doesn't work right in the code. i've done similar pages where the text has a box behind it (with CSS) and i've gotten it to work in all browsers so it shouldn't be hard with some tweaking, provided you've made it with CSS.

Well, I'd never seen the site before today, so I can't do a comparison. But as it stands I think it's a nice, clean-looking site. I do find the small text hard to read - one size larger would be best. I have good vision but this makes me strain to read it. Overall it looks nice to me though!

No excuse, thanks to the American tax payer, we have the Internet Archive.

Having a look here will take you back in time.

My favourite is probably this Very easy on my eye and looks good on my desktop.

That site's handy for looking back at the top 10 most wanted FBI list. How the world's changed since we've been Bushed. :D
