(If you don't see that email in a day or two, just shoot an email to customer service and point out the issue. I've had to do that once and they credited the diff no problem.) |
Re: Charlie Chaplin's Keystone Films?
I just got the email. I was refunded 12.96. Sweet!! Thanks for the info.

Re: Charlie Chaplin's Keystone Films?
Anybody else watching this set yet?
The quality is amazing. The ones I've seen before have never looked better. This is the best silent era release of the year. |

Re: Charlie Chaplin's Keystone Films?
Hey guys,
Question. How do I find out if "Mabel's Married Life" is in the public domain? I would like to use about 30-45 seconds from a scene in this film for a project I am working on, but I don't know how to find out if I have to pay anyone for the rights to use it. Would I contact Flicker or is there a list somewhere of public domain films? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks Dan UPDATE: I just found this online "In 1998 an additional 20 years was granted to the copyright period making all films for 1923 on available for a 95 year period of protection. <b>All films made BEFORE 1923 are permanently in the public domain.</b> Through all of these extensions, American films which had already fallen into the public domain for the reasons sited above continued to be public domain." "Mabel's Married Life" is 1914 so it looks like it's in the public domain. But does that mean I can take a really nice restored copy, like from this Chaplin box set, and use it? Or is there a specific print that is in the public domain? |

Flicker's restoration efforts, however, are their own property and subject to copyright. |

The film is in the public domain. So you can go out, purchase a 16mm print of it, and distribute as you see fit.

I'll shoot Flicker an email and see if I can use it if I give them a credit/promote their box set. In the likely event that they say NO, is there a place where I can buy a 16mm print of this film? |

Does Flicker Alley ever pick-up their damn phone?
