Victory At Sea - Good Blind Buy ?

I vaguely remember seeing this on tv when I was very young (unlike the World At War series which I really liked and have on dvd). The reviews have been generally favorable, but there have also been negative comments on the audio track and the lack of extras. Seeing that there is a good price on DDD as part of their A&E sales, I was considering purchasing it. Can anybody comment as to whether this is a good blind buy?

Victory at Sea is a much older series, and shows its age more than A World at War. You're not getting Sir Lawrence Olivier's narration (the first lines of A World at War still give me goosebumps), but it is quite good nonetheless. The footage is more stock, and often repeated for different battles or out of context. But the story is quite captivating. This series was done just a few years after the facts, and captures the feel of the times. The end of the war was as recent history at the time as Clinton's impeachment is today. It is also a good companion piece to the mainly European based A World at War.

At that price it is an absolute steal. The theme music alone is worth the purchase! Buy it by all means if you are remotely a fan of this genre.

I agree and it is a steal - I paid alittle more during BN 3 for 2 sale a year or so ago. Also, A&E is actually selling the soundtrack CD if you want the music alone.
