Howdy Partner, I got your Silverado Giftset right here...

Don't know how many of you guys have seen it yet, or are interested in this double-dip, but I got my copy today and holy cow, man, it's a goddamn box!

The package consists of a box that is over an inch thick that is held together by a slip cover which conceals two saloon doors that hide the deck of playing cards. Then, on either side of the inner box, you have to open a flap to get to the DVD in a regular 2-disc keepcase and the collectable booklet.

The playing cards, are normal playing cards with a yellowish tone to their surface. The end cards, the Ace of Spades and the Wildcards have a Western motiff on them.

Here's a pic of the whole package opened up.

Yeah, not a bad deal. 2-disc Superbit, plus a booklet and a full deck of cards all for under $15, can't beat it.

And for the record...the outer box? I "theorectically" chucked it. Well, not really, I threw it in the pile of all my other useless slip covers and stuff.

I was in no hurry to snag this...but after seeing the pic....time to whip out the debit card.

Thanks for the heads-up, Mike.

Yeah, pretty soon I'll let you know how the A/V quality is.

onebyone 04-06-05 05:59 PM

Wow. That is a lot better than I envisioned. Danke.

juicerocket 04-06-05 08:11 PM

Excellent, I'll have to pick this up this weekend! :)

Bought this with no hesitation. I would have actually preferred not to have the cards and not having the case that big. I am tight for space on my shelf. It is a really, really great movie for anyone who enjoys western/adventure flicks. I think is has held up really, really well for a 20 year old western.

I didn't have the old version, so I figured I couldn't go wrong with picking this up this Superbit Deluxe version for $15. I'm not a big fan of the huge box and the playing cards, but it should satisfy the people who complain the Japanese always get all the cool stuff. (Although watch the Japanese release of this come with a tiny working six-shooter or something. ;) )

... and cost $75 instead of $15.

Great release for under $15! A worthy edition to a collection, one of Costner's best performances. Nice package for the price.

Squirrel God 04-07-05 08:38 PM

I've never seen the film before, but hearing it was cheap, a Superbit, and had nice packaging, I checked it out and sounds like it has a good cast and will be entertaining. I ordered it a few days ago :)

spartanstew 04-07-05 09:47 PM

I had pre-ordered this and it came today. Looks very nice. I guess I'll just display it on my shelf "as is", but haven't fully decided yet. Looking forward to watching it though.

I preordered this right away, because most Kasdan releases on dvd are pretty anemic. Hope this leads to better versions for other titles as well.

Who has the best price on this?

By itself, DeepDiscountDVD is the best at $13.91.

B&M, I think Best Buy is tops at $14.99 + tax.

spartanstew 04-07-05 10:59 PM

BestBuy - $14.99 (get another crappy western for $5)
CircuitCity - $14.99
Costco - $13.00

Well, like I said, I just put the keepcase and the booklet on my shelf and chucked the outer box into the pile of all my other useless slipcases and stuff. As far as the cards, got'em sitting in my Rush Limbaugh mug. :)

Picked this up today - nice overall replacement for the original release, but I was disapointed with the 'History of Western Shootouts' featurette, which is just one long commercial for other Columbia westerns and not anything historically related. Still a keeper though!

Geofferson 05-02-05 11:02 AM

Watched this movie yesterday and wow...this has not looked or sounded better! Very impressive DVD for one of the last "traditional" westerns. The DTS was especially room-rattling. Also, if you get a chance, be sure to listen to the informative commentary be 3 Western scholars...very entertaining and insightful.
