Quick Question - What does box cut into clamshell mean in regard to vhs?

I know this is a dvd forum but on amazon i was looking at a vhs movie to buy and it said box cut into clamshell. What exactly does this mean, alot of people write that about their tapes. Thanks for the help.

I'm just going to guess that it means the original cardboard box was cut so it could be placed in one of those hard plastic snap-shut style VHS cases. I picked up a few used VHS from a rental store a couple years go and the cut did that. Similar to the way some places take apart snappers and cut them to fit into keep cases.

I don't know for sure though, I just believe that the internet should only be used to give ill-informed assumptions stated as facts

A number of years ago I worked at a rental chain that was bought out and the new company did that box cutting thing, took a long time to convert the whole store. I didn't like doing it either....

Clamshells are the plastic snap cases. Old VHS lingo, you know, Old Tyme. Just like "Display Box" (the big oversized boxes that have a plastic VHS bed in them that they apparently still use for "adult" movie)

most of the old Disney Classics on VHS had clamshell cases
