Monster Squad is coming from LionsGate in October? (merged)
*edited as it's an April Fool*
Could be (probably is) an April Fool, but... Thanks to brainbug from Rue-Morgue forums: A new DVD company called StoneStageFilms will release a 2-disc special edition of The Monster Squad on July 12, 2005. It will be presented with a new 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and loaded with extras. Also of note is that they are gearing up for Dekker’s Night of the Creeps for a similar release this fall. Special features: • Audio commentary by director Fred Dekker and writer Shane Black • Audio commentary by stars Andre Gower, Robby Kiger, Ryan Lambert and Ashley Bank • “Meet the Monsters” 37-minute featurette with Tom Noonan (Frankenstein), Duncan Regehr (Dracula), Carl Thibault (Wolfman), Tom, Woodruff (Gillman) and Michael Mackay (Mummy) • “Meet the Squad” 26-minute featurette with Andre Gower (Sean), Robby Kiger (Patrick), Ryan Lambert (Rudy) and Ashley Bank (Phoebe) • “On-Set: The Monster Squad” 18 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage from 1987 • “Monstrous Creations” 14-minute featurette with special effects artist Phil Cory and the make-up artist Matt Rose • “Monster Music” 12-minute featurette with Emmy-award winning composer Bruce Broughton • “The Neighborhood” 10-minute featurette touring the filming locations including LA’s Natural History Museum • “Scary German Guy” 9-minute interview with Leonardo Cimino • “Monster Squad Cartoon” a look at concept sketches for the unproduced Saturday morning cartoon • “Rock Until You Drop” Michael Sembello music video • Original theatrical trailer • Photo gallery http://www.actvsdei.com/damed/monster.jpg |
Hey all,
Ya' know, after wailting all this time for a release on DVD, they could have at least added some bonus content! Oh well.... Later, Matt! |
this just screams April Fools.
|
You know, I was so happy to see it I didn't even think about it..
But you're right. It probably is. DAMNIT. |
If so, then that's just mean.
|
I am dubious, but I hope it is legit.
|
Soon as I saw the thread title, I was suspicious cuz of the date. Here's hoping it's just a conincidence, though it's probably not.

i might have believed it but the part about NIGHT OF HE CREEPS kinda told me this is a prank, for sony controls this title, so this is a prank!
|
It's a fake, look at how blurry the title logo is compared to the rest of the image.
|
Total fake. “Meet the Monsters” 37-minute featurette with Tom Noonan (Frankenstein), Duncan Regehr (Dracula), Carl Thibault (Wolfman), Tom, Woodruff (Gillman) and Michael Mackay (Mummy).
Jonathan Gries was the Woflman, not Carl Thibault, I would think a legit company would make a featureette with the correct actor. Not only an april fools joke but a lame, lazy one at that. |
I think it should be illegal to make such april fools jokes...

This could still be an April Fool's joke, though. |
This is a fucked up prank, gee thanks

Original poster over at the RM Forums admitted this was an AF joke.

This could still be an April Fool's joke, though. Is that " Uncle Rico " Jonathan Gries ? |

Original posters' got nards.

I wish this was true I want this movie on DVD so badly I probably bring up the Monster Squad thread every month. As soon as I saw all those special features I knew it was fake. We still to need to find who owns this thing?
|
From IMDB:
Production Companies Home Box Office (HBO) [us] TAFT Entertainment Pictures TriStar Pictures [us] Distributors Image Entertainment Inc. [us] (USA) (laserdisc) TriStar Pictures [us] Vestron Video [us] (USA) (VHS) So could Tristar be the one holdin out? It should be illegal to keep holding onto it and not putting it on DVD. Everyone should own this movie. |
It's been a while since we heard any info about this. Anyone heard any new news on Monster Squad (or RAD!!)? I remember it was also supposed to be released by Pacific Family/Triumph on 10/28/03 (in addition to the OP statement of "StoneStageFilms on 7/12/05"), but those never came about. Why is this movie so elusive! I can't believe Monster Squad and Rad have not been released yet! By the way, I found an active petition for Monster Squad if anyones interested. Here's the link below.
