So what do you do with those Extra Long Boxes from Costco/Sam's Etc.

I noticed that the box set covers for these are getting much nicer. instead of just the long one color box these are full artwork. Rocky Box, Raging Bull, and all the friends sets looked nice. Just wondering what your thoughts are on these.

Rammsteinfan 03-27-05 05:15 PM

Personally they are nice to look at but nothing more. I dont personally go there anymore to get DVD's since they are usually much higher in price and the waiting is such a pain. Why Costco cant invent a 10 items or less line is beyond me.

Fortunately, I live in the city of Los Angeles where we have recycle bins that are picked up each week. To me, the extra packaging, while pretty is as wasteful as a hamburger from a fast food chain that comes in two wrappers and a bag.

Josh Z 03-27-05 06:05 PM

Another vote for the recycle bin.

I agree that the art on some of these boxes is getting nicer, but I still don't consider it a valid or necessary part of the packaging for the DVD itself. I have too much clutter as it is!

grunter 03-27-05 06:51 PM

Rip 'em in half and toss 'em in the garbage.

Why Costco insists on using packaging that was meant for CDs more than 15 years ago is completely beyond me.

I was gonna say... "Welcome to 1988."

gutwrencher 03-27-05 08:30 PM

wood burning stove time.

sataniko 03-27-05 08:37 PM

I just throw them in the trash.

LasVegasMichael 03-27-05 08:55 PM

Right into the trash. No big deal.

asianxcore 03-27-05 09:28 PM

throw them away.

TheNightFlier 03-27-05 09:49 PM

Right in the garbage.

Cameron 03-27-05 09:50 PM

i figured there would be at least a few pack rats....no one kept the rocky or raging bull box

Third Baseman 03-27-05 09:52 PM

Pics?

gotrice487 03-27-05 10:24 PM

I file them right into the garbage can or recycle bin if I'm not too lazy!

RevKarl 03-28-05 01:18 AM

Despite the "BS" that Penn (& Teller) says, my long boxes go in the recycling bin, not the trash.

natevines 03-28-05 07:29 AM

Garbage.
What the hell is a recycle bin?

Shagrath 03-28-05 08:09 AM

Toss 'em!

Can I get a Hoo Ha?

Yeah, this is a no brainer. I considered these things to be nothing more than extra wasteful useless packaging. I throw them away. And as already said before, I don't do my DVD shopping at these places at all anymore, period. They're always cheaper at places like Best Buy.

natevines 03-28-05 09:30 AM

Hmm, with most mainstream new releases, yes, BB, CC, etc are cheaper the first week, but after that these places usually have better prices. They sometimes have great special deals too; when the fox film noir line premiered, they had all 3 for $18, whereas BB had them for $10 a piece.

rexinnih 03-28-05 10:30 AM

I also consider them wasteful and destined for the recycle bin.

chente 03-28-05 11:06 AM

I toss them. Costco has good prices on box sets so I usually pick them up there unless I pre-order something. I rarely buy a new release there because they are a good $2-3 more than stores like Walmart and BB.

Mondo Kane 03-28-05 04:11 PM

I still have my FOTR EE box.

Mike Lowrey 03-28-05 04:22 PM

I don't buy DVDs from places that would package like this. Second, if I did, I'd just trash the boxes. Recycling them takes more energy and money than it does to make new ones.
