its not that anyone won't buy it...but its not the same shark. Just because something looks "basically" the same doesn't mean its the real deal. Like the guy on the street corner selling aiwa stereos...saying it has sony guts...or someone saying "they all look alike" about a certain group of people. They are not the same.

This is very tempting... even though I already bought the first release during Best Buy's 3/$20 Halloween promotion. If the MSRP is $22.98, there should be some good deals on it.

FULL DOC CONFIRMED

And I hope some of the production/commemorative photos include the original death scene of Alex Kintner - that is one disturbing shot

Well, Amazon has it for $16.09 - pretty nice, I think.

Someone mentioned that the doc on the old disc, while shorter, contained footage not in the full doc from the laserdisc. I guess that'll be reason enough for someone to want to have both releases, depending on how anal he/she is.

Okay, full documentary confirmed, this will be mine. Not sure whether or not I'll sell my DTS release, have to see how this new one stacks up to the originals A/V.

I have to agree, I can understand some heated discussion about cover art, but wow, counting teeth on the shark is pretty "out there"

This is my #1 concern as well...

english in dolby digital 5.1
english in dolby digital stereo
english in dolby digital mono
english in dts 5.1
spanish in dolby digital 5.1
french in dolby digital 5.1

That's a lot of audio info crammed on to one disc. We'll see... Personally, I'll wait for reviews and what not on the A/V quality before I give up my DTS copy. The extras and the original mono track aren't going to sell me, but the A/V quality is the deal breaker. If it's better, I'm in... Otherwise, I'll pass.

Since I never bothered to rebuy the 25th anniversary edition I'll surely hold out for the new one.

I'm not too concerned with losing DTS or whatever since some of those changed sound effects pissed me off. I'll most likely listen to it in mono.

I agree, four 5.1 tracks, one being DTS, is a lot for a single disc. But the movie's not too long, just have to wait for reviews.

Well, I'm still going to buy it for the 2-Hour Doc. and probably keep my old DTS edition to actually watch the movie on.

Losing the DTS?

Also, the DTS edition remix sounded so much better than the Dolby. It's much more natural and in keeping with the original mono. Sounds excellent!

Has it been confirmed that it's the actual ORIGINAL Mono and not just a Mono mix of the 5.1 tracks? The original Mono would be the ONLY reason I'd pick this up (again).

Umm,I am sure it is the original mono mix and don't understand where this "Will it just be the 5.1 mix downgraded to mono?" rumors going around are coming from?

Also Qui,DTS is not the be end,be all of audio. Jaws rocks the house down in it's original mono mix, accept no substitutes

I'm still probably going to watch it in mono.

Ummm because it's happened before...and I'm sure it will happen again. I've asked that before as well.

Believe me, I don't care what format the track is mixed in, as long as it sounds good. And the DTS of Jaws sounds really really good, far better than the DD track. I'd still like to hear the mono, but I think I'd still probably stick with the excellent DTS track, remixed or not, it still sounds great.

It's not so much the "remixing" that upset most people... it's the rerecording of sound effects. The foley effects on the DVD are radically different from the way the film was presented for the previous 25 years. And it sounds "fake" for lack of a better term. It's a pretty jarring experience that takes me completely out of the film... one of my favorites, no less.

When did it happen before? This is news too me.

Every mono dvd I have seen that included a 5.1 remix, appeared to be the original mono mix,and not a 'downmix of th 5.1 track'. So please explain what titles this was done too?

It happened with Fox's 25th Anniversary THX LD of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The horrible stereo remix (which used alternate vocals) was dumped down to mono, and the actual original mono mix was missing.
