Arriving on June 14th from Warner Home Video is The Bette Davis Collection. This five-disc set will feature Mr. Skeffington and The Star (both new-to-DVD), as well as a new edition of the classic Dark Victory which has been restored from the original camera negative and and given a new transfer. The set also includes two other archetypal Davis essentials, Now Voyager (originally released in 2002) restored from the original negative and now in sturdy Amaray packaging, and The Letter (released earlier this year). Extras on Mr. Skeffington include commentary by the director Vincent Sherman and the new featurette "Mr. Skeffington: A Picture of Strength"; The Star includes "How Real is The Star?" featurette; Dark Victory includes commentary (by film historian James Ursini and CNN film critic Paul Clinton) and the new featurette "1939: Tough Competition for Dark Victory"; The Letter includes an alternate ending and two complete Lux Radio broadcasts from 1941 and 1944,; and Now Voyager includes Max Steiner's score session cues. Retail is $49.92 for the collection, or $19.97 per disc.

That's good news, although I wish they could have found room for Marked Woman, a great film that seemed on the thematic fringe of a couple other boxsets (though I guess it wasn't quite Gangster or Controversial enough for inclusion) and that I was really hoping would be included here. Oh well.

Still another great package from Warners though...

I'm still waiting for "The Petrified Forest." Easily some of her best work, and so young and beautiful!

Um, you got it, WB released a great DVD of it a little while ago in the Gangsters Collection and by itself.

Great news, I'll definitely be picking this set up!
