"Star Wars" prequel trilogy boxed set?
 

When The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King was released on DVD--both theatrical and extended versions--all three movies of each version were grouped together and sold as collectible boxed sets of the trilogy.

I'm sure only Lucasfilm insiders would have any idea about this right now, but does anyone think that come fall 2005, at which time Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith no doubt finds its way onto DVD, Lucas will also come through with a "Prequel Trilogy" boxed set?

I already bought Episode I and Episode II, but if they release a set of all three a la The Lord of the Rings, I will definitely pick that up instead of Episode III individually. What can I say? I'm a freak for boxed sets. :)

Well hopefully he cgi's Yoda in EP. I, that's the only way I'll double dip. Maybe I'll just wait for the Ultimate HD-DVD set whenever that comes out (in 10 years, lol)

I think a "Complete Saga" set (all six movies) is more likely...with some additional changes to all the films, of course. Never hold off on buying the current ones - because with Lucas you can almost guarantee that new releases will be different than the current ones. (Heck, even the current Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones DVDs are slightly different than the ones that played in the theaters.)

Well, episodes 1-3 will probably get the 'three regular dvd's packaged into a cardboard slipcase' treatment so it can be sold as a 'boxed set'. It's possible though, that they may make a special box for them to match the Star Wars Episodes 4-6 box set, that would be really nice. As far as the idea of a box set containing all six films, it will probably some time before we see it, but it will eventually happen.

The only way I'd consider buying a boxset containing the ep 1 & 2 stinkfests is if eps 4-6 were included and you could watch the original theatrical versions.

So I take it you're not interested in a boxset?

Yeah, nobody was asking for opinions on these films. We've been down that road with too many threads in the past already.

You might, but it would be awful nervy for them to release a box set of the six in 2007 when they're gong to start releasing them again in theaters 2007 in 3D....

3-d in theaters that summer...in a nice new remastered box for christmas that year....same as it ever was.....hit it hard for the summer, and cash in with santa. They do it everytime there is a star wars release.

I'll only buy a box set if there is new material, but it would be cool to see a mail away offer like the LOTR

I dont see any newer editions coming out until HDDVD becomes the standard.

I thought that the re-release of TPM a la today's releases was to have that very same thing.

I also would like to see Lucas do the same thing as the LOTR mail offer or the Jurrasic park offer.

Since I already have Ep 1 and 2, it would be cool if they offered a separate box when Ep 3 comes out like New Line did for LOTR extended set. For some reason I don't see them offering just a box.

Can anybody confirm this? Or even provide screen shots?

When it comes to the DVDs that have already come out, there's nothing more that I want. Special feature wise, it is loaded. TPM's transfer looks a little muddy compared to AotC, but I think that has to do with the whole "shoot on digital, transfer to film" thing they did for whatever reason. I don't see myself buying any more versions of these movies ever again. I mean it.

If he makes more changes, I'll probably double dip. I'm sure there will be another release on the next format and yep I'll get those as well......man I'm a fucking sucker

TPM wasn't totally shot on digital. I believe only pieces of it were. That's why they had to transfer from film.

I never bothered picking up TPM or AotC because I figured there would be some sort of prequel trilogy box set once all 3 were out. I'm hoping like someone mentioned above that it will match the box set out of eps 4, 5, 6. I really wouldn't want to have to double-dip and only be offered a full 6-ep box set. I'd pick up the 1-3 individually, except I think it definately deserves better treatment, a la box set.

I agree. My post count would be a lot higher if I went into each thread and posted something about or against whatever the topic was, but if I'm not interested in whatever the topic is, I don't bother entering the thread....unless of course I have some whitty remark about special features. ;)

Didn't they boxset Episode I and II together already? I would assume they would box set the Prequel Trilogy together as well. Individual release and also 3 movie release w/ boxset. Not sure if they would make box available to owners who already have I and II. New Line didn't do that with the LOTR theatrical DVDs but did with the EE's. But this is Fox so it might be possible.

they did pack the first two movies together before...and I have seen no more mention of the new episode 1 dvd to have digital yoda...i think that was a rumor that got out of hand.
