Alone in the Wilderness - Dick Proenneke - Alaskan wilderness
 

Alone in the Wilderness...watched this on PBS and its getting a dvd purchase now. Dick Proenneke amazed me. The guy set out to live in the wilderness for a year by himself and stayed for almost 30. It was a great Documentary, and I can't believe I had never heard of this before.

Alaska: Silence and Solitude is also listed at amazon. It stars Dick and has the same director...but a 60 dollar price tag. Anyone seen this.

There is also a book: One Man's Wilderness: An Alaskan Odyssey...might grab this as well.

Just wondering if anyone has these dvd's and can give some insight.

I have the book and it’s a good companion for the DVD (meaning to pick that up). I wonder how many other guys did the same thing he did. The stories they could have told are gone simply because they didn’t have a camera and or a journal.

I wanted to add that this guy was 51 years old when he moved out to the wilderness and became a hermit. This is awesome stuff. Check this out if runs on your pbs stations, or grab the dvds.
