The Aviator - 5/24/05 Official Specs

I might pick this up as a blind buy. I'm not a big fan of the cover art though.

Ahhh well....no dts. sweet set though! will definitely pick it up

Simpson Purist 03-15-05 01:18 PM

I am very happy to see that Warner is handling the DVD and not Miramax. Warner delivers better quality transfers and The Aviator's Oscar-winning cinematography oughtta look great.

Josh H 03-15-05 01:21 PM

Can't wait!

PopcornTreeCt 03-15-05 01:30 PM

The cover art is the theatrical poster art. Not too shabby.

slop101 03-15-05 01:39 PM

That's a very nice set of extras. I hope they're as good as they seem.

That cover may be the poster, but my God, it's one hell of a BIG head-shot.

Mike Lowrey 03-15-05 01:42 PM

Not sure I wanna get this. Not a big fan of either Leonardo or Hughes. Not sure if I'd care about the movie, despite the supposedly great flying sequences.

Geofferson 03-15-05 02:18 PM

I prefer the poster of Leo wearing the aviator shades.

Will still be picking this one up though - sounds excellent.

Big Worms 03-15-05 02:22 PM

Never seen this movie, but have been looking forward to it. I will pick it up as a blind buy.

Dabaomb 03-15-05 02:25 PM

Leos' head is huge on the cover...I guess it's good if you're a Leo lover but I'm not.

SInce Warner is releasing it, I can get it from Columbia House

ruk 03-15-05 02:33 PM

probably get this through columbiahouse.

animatedude 03-15-05 03:06 PM

THE REAL oscar winner for best picture is finally coming out on DVD.

Vincent Freeman 03-15-05 03:53 PM

That's a bit disapointing! I was hoping they would include actual footage of Hughes as an extra. I would think there is still plenty of surviving footage out there, I just might wait and cross my fingers that one day they'll do this film justice with proper extras.

Well, it might have had DTS with Miramax/Disney though. I might have to go region free for this one if there's an NTSC DTS version elsewhere.

Sweeet

Um... what the hell do you mean by "proper extras" - what is announced sounds like more than ample, and I realy don't see what else they could add.

straight from the specs:
"a fourty-five minute documentary entitled Modern Marvels: Howard Hughes"
&
"a Role Of Howard Hughes In Aviation History featurette"

You really think there's not going to be any actual footage of Huges in these features?

Cameron 03-15-05 07:51 PM

bought

Are you serious? You do realize that this movie is almost 3 hours and that a DTS track will either split the movie in half onto two disc, or greatly compromise the image quality. And what makes you think the DD track will be anything but great? WB has an awesome track record on their 5.1 soundtracks.

I swear man! We're getting this kick-ass dvd, and all people want to do is bitch and complain.

island007 03-15-05 07:59 PM

It sounds sweet. When they release it, I'll buy it.

Corvin 03-15-05 08:25 PM

Bring in the milk.

I wasn't complaining, I just might go for a DTS version elsewhere since there will likely be one internationally. I'm not that big on extras so I prefer better sound/video quality, even if it has to be split to two discs. Without the French 5.1 track and audio commentary, it wouldn't be that hard to throw on a DTS track.

jpdude 03-15-05 08:39 PM

OMG that cover art SUCKS! They've got to change that.

Sondheim 03-16-05 12:39 AM

I'm glad to see a great movie get what looks like a very good DVD release (though I still think the Oscars got it right this year.)

Not the best cover art I've ever seen - but as long as the actual content is good...

Agreed, though I preferred the one with the shades...astleast it doesn't have a giant block of text exclaiming it's award nominations.

Now all we need is a nice(er) SE of Gangs of NY...
