What's with MGM and digipaks??

Why all of a sudden is MGM going with digipaks?

Get Shorty
Hoosiers
Raging Bull

I love digipaks, don't get me wrong, but they look really out of place in my collection.

Not that big of a deal, I know, but thought I'd bring it up.

I agree with you. They make my collection look terrible. Along with

The Pink Panther Collection
West Side Story CE

I like them if they are done properly.

Yeah, I like the Raging Bull set.

Then what do you love about them?

Cameron 03-10-05 02:15 PM

love them...west side story and raging bull in particular...they look great, house the disc well. If I wanted a uniform system i would become a nazi.

They're ok, i don't particularly like how the West Side Story SE is so much larger then the other discs on my shelf.

I like digipacks most of the time...they look classy to me and usually have cool art work and stuff...the only digipacks i dont like are the ones that have a bunch of discs and you have to carefully fold them out across your floor to keep the trays from splitting from the cardboard ex...24 seasons 1-3 and the alien quadriliogy

I like they way MGM's done their recent batch of digi-packs. They're nice and they're creative.

Hoosiers has the faux basketball texture.
Raging Bull's has a cool sort of rough texture with slick lettering.
Get Shorly has bullet holes behind the spindles.

The artwork's really nice and the booklets aren't cheap throw-aways. Much nicer that the typicall clam-shell with just a cover and the disc. I really like these so far and look forward to more.

I hear good, bad, and ugly has a unique case, and I've seen it on the post pics of your collection thread. looks tall and thin. what other dvd has that type of case?

None that I'm aware of. It's actually a box, tall but not really thin, more like big... Holds one disc on a spindle on the inside of the box top and the other on the inside of the box bottom. The cards, insert, etc, go in the box.

I love digipaks, as long as they're durable. I don't loan 'em out as much, though. :D

I hate this DVD packaging more than any other cuz it's too tall to fit in with the rest of your DVDs.

In regards tot he original question, I hate digipacks cuz they seem to have a higher % of scratched discs (it's easier for the disc to press down into the digipack casing).

darmok 03-10-05 09:42 PM

what i hate is that they're prone to dents and general wear and tear. with keepcases, you can simply replace the plastic case.

it's all about the hub. when I got simpsons season 4, the hubs were the ones that are most common on digipacks I believe, the ones that don't say push, jsut a big circle. well my simpsons set those were completely filed down. the discs will not stay in place ! so I converted it to amaray -rolleyes-
