Redeeming Special Offers without Proof of Purchase?

Hi. I recently got the Disney releases of Valley of the Wind, Cat Returns and Porco Rosso and as expected, the special offer to get another DVD requires the proof of purchase to be cut from the back.. I would rather keep the cover intact. To me, it's kinda weird to see a block cut away from the back.. Had any body had success redeeming an offer with some other type of proof of purchase?
Thanks

I've never tried it, but Disney usually has a big barcode on the plastic wrap. Can anyone confirm if that would be valid?

The plastic wrap didn't have any type of bar code on mine.. Just a Buena Vista imprint.. The security sticker just has the name of the movie and a number.. I'm going to try to call them on Monday, as my copy of the Cat Returns has a couple of finger prints on them and Amazon.ca won't replace it unless it affects playback.. Going to ask about the offer also..
Thanks

Worse case scenario, take 'em off a Blockbuster rental. I do agree, it's a hideous practice, and one I've never been able to participate in since I refuse to destroy cover art for which I paid.

I used to care about keeping the case intact, but have gotton over it. A nice scissors job and a trip to a mailbox makes me a happy camper when that free disc arrives.

As I said, I used to care, but then realized that these discs dive in value shortly after thier release (e.g. $5.88 Walmart bin).

Exactly. As long as you're careful, it's not even noticeable if the case is black.

After the initial "oh, ah" phase of getting a new DVD I barely look at the back anyway.
