I think this is something we all want very badly, but unfortunately will not come to fruition. Just remember when Shatner asked to do a Director's Cut of Star Trek V where he wanted to add new effects, and actually extend certain scences. Paramount balked at the idea and it was scrapped, which is sad, as I think that's what the fans wanted, and that's what these discs are meant to appeal to. First off, Stuart Baird(WTF were they thinking) was a horrible choise as director of "Nemesis", but maybe, just maybe, they can add the 45 minutes back(I know I've been smoking the ganja too much today) and salvage this film. |
Hmm, on one hand, I probably haven't watched the original DVD more than twice since I bought it back when it first came out. On the other hand, there's deleted scenes and the price should be as good as the other SCEs.

I have mixed feelings about this one. I didn't love the movie but I didn't hate it. Part of me wants to have all of the movies but the other part of me just wants to forget that they made any movies after First Contact.

Jamers, out of curiosity, what are you watching Generations on? I have a 61" Sam DLP and the picture is outstanding.

The ONLY way I'd buy a CE of Nemesis is if it were a director's cut with a ton of footage put back in the movie. I did like Insurrection enough to pick up the CE of it...I've always thought it got a bad rap from fans - it's certainly more enjoyable than Nemesis, and about on par with Generations. |

Although Nemesis was a box office flop (the first Trek picture to lose money theatrically), if the additional scenes are not FX-heavy (or have already completed FX) I'm sure it will be less difficult to justify recutting them (or at least some of them) back into the movie. |
What, no apology on the CE?
"The cast and crew of Star Trek: Insurrection, the ninth feature film based on the popular television series, would like to take this opportunity to apologize for wasting one of the four features based on the Next Generation on this inane tripe that wouldn't even have made a halfway decent episode, let alone a full-length feature film. Again we apologize, and hope you will remember that complete seasons of Enterprise are forthcoming from Paramount." |
this recent interview with Frakes states the following,
With regards to DVD's the actor informed the audience that he had recently recorded the director's comments for Star Trek: Insurrection. When he was asked about Insurrection he said that the movie originally ran too long and needed some of the “air” letting out. it says "directors comments" not "directors commentary" ..if he did record one and paramount didn't announce it...they either are pissed he said negative things, or just didn't include it..(for whatever other reason).. |
I think Buckee1 was talking to me. I watched a little bit of it on my Samsung DLP 4674. I was seeing lots of white and black specs race across the screen. Kind of like dust on the film when you're at the movie theater. I believe they may be artifacts created by too much compression but I can't be sure. I was playing it on a 2 year old Sony Progressive DVD player via RGB component. I plan to give the movie another try when I get a new Sony upscaling DVD player connected via HDMI. I hope that will help.
If anyone here says it's not the DVD itself, please tell me will the other Star Trek DVDs don't display the same artifacts using the same DVD player and TV? |

Make it so!

Hopefully when Nemisis is rereleased they will bring out a new box set. Ill wait till then since the only one I own at moment in the first one.
|
I'll be picking this up just to have in my collection of Star Trek SEs. The text commentaries are great.
|
I'll be buying them all because a) I don't have any of the initial releases, b) to complete the custom cover spine image from Ric Easton's cover set, and c) because they've been running fairly cheap since ST:VI at only $14/each.
|
So now that Insurrection is out as an SE, has there been any annoucement of a Nemesis SE to finish the collection for us completists?

I owe everyone hear a humongous apology! I just started watching The Generations SE and in the first chapter I am shocked at just how poor the image appears. I don't know what I was looking at before when I said that the image was "Outstanding"? Whatever I was drinking then, I'm not now and man, this is a really crappy presentation. The color saturation on the other hand is excellent. Grain and shimmers abound everywhere else though. Color me Coo Koo :buford:

I really have to pick up the Star Trek: Original Crew Movie Collection at work so i can catch up with them all again.

The originals are definately better than the TNG movies unfortunately (I say unfortunately because I'm a bigger fan of TNG than the Original Series), but in rewatching them, I'm finding the TNG movies to be not as bad as I remembered. I watched Insurrection again today for the first time in several years, and I was actually suprised at how much I enjoyed it. Maybe I was just in a good mood today, but I couldn't bring myself to feel like it was terrible or worthless or a travesty or anything. And now that I've seen it, I'm ready for the Nemesis: 2-Disc Director's Cut. :D |
Yeah, I rewatched Insurrection last night and it wasnt half as bad as I remembered it. I quite enjoyed it and the text commentary. Extras will be watched this weekend. Hopefully Nemesis, another underrated entry in the series, gets a Directors cut w/ the extra 30-45 mins added in just to see what it was originally intended to be.
