The First Amendment Project
Release Date: June 14, 2005
Color, 67 min + extras
U.S. $26.95 srp

At a time when freedom of speech has never been more important, Sundance Channel and Court TV present films from THE FIRST AMENDMENT PROJECT, a highly innovative and wildly entertaining anthology of original films that explore First Amendment rights through the headline-grabbing moments where our Constitution’s integrity has been tested.

Laugh along with political comedian Al Franken as he battles Fox News over a ridiculous trademark infringement case, then consider the implications of state-sponsored art through the firestorm that erupted when activist writer and New Jersey Poet Laureate Amiri Baraka read a controversial poem about 9/11. The right to protest versus the need for public security is scrutinized against the backdrop of the 2004 Republican National.

Reflecting the distinctive sensibilities and personal perspectives of award-winning indie filmmakers--Mario Van Peebles (Baadasssss!); Chris Hegedus & Nick Doob (The War Room); and John Walter (How to Draw a Bunny)--these original films challenge viewers to examine their understanding of civil liberties, using instances when unpopular, irreverent, and politically incorrect expression ran against prevailing attitudes and powerful interests.

DVD FEATURES INCLUDE:
Comic Strips; Mario van Peebles Interview Outtakes; Alternative R.N.C. Photo Gallery; Outtakes; Amiri Baraka Statement; Performance of “Somebody Blew Up America” by Amiri Baraka; Deleted Scene: Profile of a Protestor; Interactive Menus; Scene Selection

This might be apples and oranges, but I once saw a short on TV, I think it was MTV's Liquid Television, that featured footage from some anime, where you couldn't see anybody's mouths, and the dubbed in dialogue was basically everyone accusing everyone else of farting, using every euphimism known to mankind for such act. I remember it had me in tears from laughing so hard, but I've never seen it again. Would anyone know what this is and where I could find it?

thank you!

Have you checked the Wet Shorts: The Best of Liquid Television DVD? I haven't seen it, but I guess there's a good chance it might be on there.

the ultimate shorts collection is over $25 off at DDD. it's $34.54. about a dollar a short film. this price might justify the purchase for some of the posters above.

if someone wants to dvdtalk linkify, that'd be cool.
