BG is planned for a Blu-Ray release. They really have no excuse if they release it in half-season sets there.

Uh, Universal who releases BG doesn't support blu-ray...so I don't think you'll see a release there...now I hear they are thinking of an HD DVD release and that would probably be the full season...

People keep forgetting that both HD formats, despite thier huge capacity, tend to fill up quite quickly with hi-def content. A single movie can easily fill the capacity of a single layer disc. It's not like you can fix a box set of TV episodes on a pair of hi-def discs.

Does anyone know how long after the seasons have been ending .. the DVDs come out? I have no idea when season II finished (if it even has) mostly since it runs at such an obscure time of the week, that I gave up following it. Though, I love the show, own seasons 1 & 2.0 .. but can't believe its taking so long for these seasons to be released.

Friday nights at 10pm EST is obscure? :scratch2:

I beleive the Dvds usually come out right before the next season begins....depending on the time frome of course...thsi time I believe it will be about 9 months??? I forget when the last seaon ended BUT it has ntohing to do with the time....And I agree EVERY Friday at 10Pm was obscure????? pretty much EVERY episode of BSG on UHD and SciFi have run on a set schedule.....they never changed it......

pinata242 06-28-06 09:17 AM

Season 2.0 ended 9-23-05 and the DVDs came out 12-20-05 (3 months)

Season 2.5 ended 3-10-06 and the DVDs are coming out 9-19-06 (6 months)

It appears to be about 2 weeks before the next new episode premeires to let people catch up.

visitor Q 06-28-06 06:10 PM

Thanks all! The timing really isn't that bad all.

.. and yes, Kevin. 10pm is a - at least different - time for what I believe could easily be a prime time show. Then again, maybe it all depends on who the target audience really is, I don't know. 10pm on Fridays - I'm either out or watching DVDs. The Sci Fi channel is 90% full of absolute crap the rest of the week .. why not expand the target market to a include a larger demographic. And I thoroughly enjoy "good" Sci Fi. That channel would be doing themselves a favor.

I know the next release will be a season 2.5 thing, but will they re-release both parts of season 2 as a big boxset?

It's been brought up multiple times in this thread, and the answer is: we don't know.

I think the general consensus is no (other than the outside possibility of the two halves being shrinkwrapped together by certain retailers).

I just don't see any precedent for a company to release a specifically divided part of a TV series, than to release the full season encompassing the previous release also (that doesn't include "best-of's")

Obviously you haven't been to the UK!
We are getting continuosly ripped of by this practice.
Sorry for not checking the thread first, but after doing a forum search for Battlestar Galatica there was a number of threads and this one did start off being about the 1st season. I just thought it was better than starting another thread. Thanks.

I'm sorry UK studios do this, but in the states I can't think of a single case of it happeing like this. (again, aside from best-of's, which are usually scattered over several seasons)

And sorry about the question too, it's just been asked so many times, you could probably skim thru this thread alone and see it mentioned a dozen times.

jdslater1 07-11-06 03:00 PM

Just checked some other UK sites and, are you ready for this, we are getting the whole of season 2 in one box. I know shocking!
We seem to be getting the extras from your 1st set and all the podcasts. It would have been cheaper if they had a full R1 season 2 boxset but i'll have to go with the R2 set. Due for release on 28th August for around £40.
Strange when you ask a question and then all this info turns up the same time.

milo bloom 07-11-06 04:07 PM

Well, I guess it's good for you guys that you're getting a full box. I never really had a problem with splitting it like they did here, aside from the price. I just wish the 2.5 was coming out sooner, the season finale was a while back and I'd like to do the whole thing again before S3 starts.

jdslater1 07-11-06 06:08 PM

I could have watch both season when they were on Tv over here, but if I know I can get it on R1 DVD soon after the season finishes I won't bother watching it until I can get it on DVD.
I really liked the 1st season. I thought the storylines, Balters' humor and surprises were
superb.
And that ending! haven't seen sci-fi done as well as that in a long time ( proberbly since Firefly).

First season ending? Ooh, that's a doozy, but wait till you see the second season end. You'll either want to put Ron Moore on a pedastal or on a cross, it's that incredible. (I thought it was brilliant personally)

jdslater1 07-12-06 03:38 AM

Now I cannot wait ( but I have to ), cheers!

Ph8te 08-04-06 01:45 AM

Region 2 UK is as well.

A little bit on the upcoming Season 3, and on the 2.5 DVD set here

'Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far' will serve as a refresher for current fans and as a primer for anyone new to the world of Galactica....

...and will be distributed at Best Buy as a bonus dvd with the 'Battlestar Galactica' season 2.5 dvd set, as well as other genre titles, from Universal Home Video. The dvd will also be distributed to visitors to the Universal Studios theme parks, and snippets of the special will be available on YouTube, Google Video and other video portal sites.

Has anyone else heard of any other BSG goodies besides the one I posted? I just got a Reward Zone GC in the mail, so I'll probably be grabbing that at BB on Tuesday.

tjn007 09-17-06 11:26 AM

The Best Buy Deal this week that includes "Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far" according to NetFlix viewers is no big deal and is of poor quality.

So you might at well rent it and try to get a better price for Season 2.5 somewhere else or wait for the inevitiable Season 2 combo pack.

I just got a $20 Reward Zone GC, so I'd probably get it at Best Buy anyways, and I'm a huge sucker for bonus discs like this.

And I honestly doubt we'll be seeing a Season 2 combo pack. I just don't see anything (beyond shrinkwrapping the two sets together) being done by the studio because it would basically cost money to do, and I don't understand how people keep thinking it's going to happen?

nemein 09-17-06 06:09 PM

W/ the number of threads around here complaining about studios "forcing" double-dips on us I think it's fair odds they may do something like this. Even if it is just a repack of the existing sets that's preferred IMHO.
