Hellraiser Box Set

Are there any plans by Anchor Bay to put out a Collector's Edition Box Set for Region 1?

The Exister 03-01-05 08:05 AM

The R2 is mighty cheap right now (15 pounds, I think) - if you're region-free, I'd say go for it. Otherwise, who knows...

Hellraiser 1/2, Hellraiser 3, and 4 and up, all are owned by different studios here in the US, so there probably will never be a box set. Hellraiser 1,2 & 3's rights are owned by the same company in the UK, so there's a very nice cube-shaped box set available there. Get a region-free player that handles PAL, and order from amazon.co.uk, it's very easy to do, and shipping's not bad either.

If you buy the individual discs, Paul Champagne has created two nice metalic boxes for the series. You can check them out here.

The thing is I don't really dig the PAL speed up's. How does the R2 picture quality compare with the R1's?

ShagMan 03-01-05 03:12 PM

I honestly didn't notice it. The most distracting thing about the R2 set was hellraiser 3 where they put back in some "low quality" extra video, it's very noticable.

Ditto. I thought that 3 had a few minutes of audio being out of sync with the video and commented it on it in the international forum thread but when I went back and looked for it recently, I couldn't find it. I must have been hallucenating.

The rights to Hellraiser 1 and 2 are currently held by Anchor Bay (unsure whether or not they're licensed from another party or for how long), Hellraiser 3 is (was?) owned by Paramount, and 4-up are owned by Disney/Dimension.

So far, Paramount has shown zero interest in releasing Hellraiser III.

Well, at least we don't have to rely on one studio. We can go elsewhere.

All these responses and no one is complaining about the lack of a question mark in the title? Have the DVD Talk people gone soft?

Thanks for the info on the Uk box set. I just ordered it for $30.39 shipped. Good price for 3 movies, a cool box, and overseas shipping :hump:

Anyone else find it odd that the collector's puzzle box is cheaper than the standard 4-disc set at amazon.co.uk?

BuddyRevell 03-02-05 12:04 PM

I heard the box wasn't that stable. Might look cool, but damages very easily.

dullboy 03-02-05 12:10 PM

Yeah, and I'm sure it won't fit on my custom-made DVD shelves.

yeah, if you don't care about the "it looks cool" factor, definitely skip it... it's fragile, I had to repair mine with a bit of superglue when I got it (it got squished). It does look VERY cool next to my 18" NECA Pinhead though!!

They do that to get rid of them since it's limited. Then people start selling them for ridiculously high prices on Amazon Marketplace and pay a hefty price to Amazon for doing so.

Yeah, I just broke down and ordered the R2 disc from amazon.uk ($17 shipped, not too bad). Damn you Paramount.
