Will the impending "divorce" between Disney and Miramax affect his situation?

mr.rs 02-22-05 07:36 PM

You can find a nice picture comparison at dvd-compare.com.
I've bought this dvd too many times to buy another.
I've owned two R1s, the French R2(16/9 and DTS) and Austrailian R4(16/9 and DTS).
The R4 has the best picture I've been able to come across.

Hell, maybe I will get the R3.......I wanna see the twenty seconds now................thanks alot!!!!!!!

When does the 'divorce' happen?

I am actually looking forward to it,since then maybe they will be more free to release unrated versions of NC-17 level films.

Are you sure none of the French or Australian releases are uncut? I would assume France would get the uncut print, but you never know. Since some countries got the R version only as well, while others did not.

Unlikely; Disney would still own the back-catalog from Miramax, but the Weinsteins wouldn't be there to push Disney at all regarding the Miramax catalog.

Well, no version I've ever seen has had a slow moving shot of Casey's death as described above or the smashed head in the garage door. Unless I'm oblivious.

I reviewed the disc a bit closer tonight. Looks good. Not the most amazing transfer, but decent. It's got some aliasing issues and it's not the most jaw-dropping compression job I've seen, but it looks nice in a lot of ways and I didn't notice any edge enhancement while skipping around the disc. I think it's a superb alternative to the cut non-anamorphic US disc for most DVD watchers. The menu graphics, on the other hand, are blurry and not representative of the actual transfer. Here's some shots:

That and the fact that Scream was actually a Dimension title and in all likelihood Dimension will remain with Disney. Harvey's probably the only one who'll end up leaving, Bob will stay.

That is incorrect, sir.

-Steve's guts are shown pouring out of him as Casey looks on. In the released version, the very last few moments of this are shown.
-Casey hanging from the tree was time compressed in the film release (it is at
normal speed here).
-When Tatum meets her death by garage door, her head is shown, very briefly being flattened.
-After Kenny the cameraman's throat is cut, he stares at the blood on his hand after touching his neck, and then looks up at the killer.
-Billy clearly loses control as he delivers his final cuts to Stuart.
-After Billy and Stuart have finished stabbing each other, there is a shot of
Stu's hand dripping blood into a puddle, with Sydney's father looking on.

IMDB doesn't seem to include that Casey's stabbing was also trimmed, the commentary makes mention to this as well.

Hint: Read the thread before you post, I already posted that. 4th post in this thread in fact. ;)

Where can I get the R3 Korean DVD? I tried koreandvds.com but they have it as a preorder for 3/5 and list "NG cut" in the specs, so I'm not sure if that is it.

dam,10 years already, feels like just yesterday i was always running to blockbuster praying it was on the new release wall,i liked this movie so much back then,i even remember the video release date, june 24..lol..i wonder when the remalke will start to hit theaters =)

ianholm 02-23-05 09:09 AM

Yeah, it's true. Just think, in the span of nine years there have already been two sequels, a spoof (Scary Movie) and two sequels to THAT, plus about 20 other knockoffs!

That's the uncut disc. "NG Cut" is an extra feature on the disc that consists of outtakes.

So the Korean single disc release is uncut and NTSC?

If so,for $6.88 and if shipping is not insanely expensive. I would'nt mind picking it up.

ScottsDvds 02-23-05 01:24 PM

Forget uncut, I want a new transfer and Dts. I have the DD, DTS, and a couple Japanese versions on laserdisc and I can't wait for another DVD.

I thought the single disc Korean version was NOT the NC-17 version. I thought that was just the Japanese disc and the Korean disc that's part of th boxed set.

I own the single-disc Korean version (never cared for the sequels). It is definitely the uncut version, just as is presented on the laserdisc.

As far as picture quality, I've never compared it to the version in the 4-disc set (and I've never seen any comparisons online). It doesn't look amazing, but it looks better than the U.S. R1 edition. I have no complaints.

Shipping at KoreanDVDs is reasonable, especially if you are buying 3-4 discs at once. That's how I usually do it and I think it works out to about $2 shipping per title... not too bad. I've purchased Remo Williams (widescreen), Big (anamorphic) and a couple of other titles from them.

The screencaps I posted, the first two of which show uncut footage, are from the single-disc R3 Korean release. It is uncut and NTSC.

True, the old buzz was that Bob would stick around -- at least for a while -- because Dimension is the only wing of Disney making a profit. But the newer buzz is that they'll both wind up leaving (possibly because even Dimension hasn't been doing as well). Either way, though, they were never going to leave with the name "Miramax" (or Dimension) or any of the titles released/owned by Miramax or their subsidiaries.
