got the Video Business mag today with the ad. May be a blind buy since I've not seen it yet.

The Criterion site added The Life Aquatic to their Coming Soon section with different cover art than we have seen so far. It does look like they are releasing both a single and two disc version. I'm not sure which the cover they are showing is for. It looks like this is the reversible artwork that people were wondering about.

It could be that what we saw previously was the outer slipcover, and the new art is the inside, similar to Tenenbaums.

Yeah, I'll say. Criterion isn't holding anything back for this release. My must buy for May!

It doesn't have the reversible cover listed under the 2-disc. Think it was just left off the list?

There is no reversible cover for the 2-disc. The 2-disc will come in a slipcase and the cover in the keepcase will be the one on the Criterion site.

I like the drawings the brother (?) does. Simple, understated, and perfect.

I'm pretty sure that this is the official cover for the 2-disc, and the one with the cast is for the 1-disc, but I may be wrong.

the description for the one disc on criterion's site says it has reversible cover art.... so you might have a choice with the one disc.

Hmm interesting. I don't know who's gonna go for the one disc anyways, if the projected prices hold through on the market, why not pay an extra $3 for the second disc?

Just to be clear on the Criterion Life Aquatic artwork:

On the 2-disc set, the first picture is the artwork for the cardboard slipcase; the second is for the inner Digipak:

On the 1-disc edition, artwork nearly identical to the above (see this DVD Times article) will appear on a reversible cover for the keepcase.

Touchstone/Buena Vista (who will be distributing both editions) dictated the first cover, and also set the pricing; Criterion chose the second cover (by the director's brother, Eric), and is responsible for the content.

It's just like with The Royal Tenenbaums. The more usual cover art on the slipcase, the fancy art work cover on the keepcase inside.

I just hope they get rid of that ridiculous "SPECIAL EDITION TWO DISC SET" border before the final thing comes out.

hmm, I was hoping they'd drop that first cover we'd seen and stick just to the second cover you've listed as the inner digipak....

Already have Kagemusha and this one preordered. Glad to see that Criterion gets to release another Wes Anderson film.
