Now, if I was a lesbian, I would have picketed the showings of Notes on a Scandal. That Judi Dench character had very few redeeming qualities and she was depicted as a maleficent, calculating, ball-breaking witch doomed to a lifetime of loneliness, bullying, deceit, blackmail and predatory behaviour.

Good acting job, though!

Notes on a Scandal was a pretty good movie. Judi Dench's character was a pretty sad one - poor woman just couldn't get any as hard as she tried!

But just to play devil's advocate here, her character was also 100 % along the lines of what straight society used to assume a lonely old spinster to really be like in her personal life, especially if she's a lesbian, and that, my dear, is what used to be called a hateful stereotype.

I mean: Surely, it's one thing to depict Miss Gulch as Miss Gulch but it's quite another thing to show her trying to get into Dorothy's panties by using Toto as collateral...

I'm kind of surprised shocked that the MPAA granted the film a R-rating, even with the following scene intact

Spoiler:
sublimenal bareback anal sex scene

Re: Why haven't they released Cruising yet?

I've changed. When I first saw 'Cruising' back in the early 80's, I felt kind of nauseated by what I was watching. It all seemed so dirty and dispirited.

Watched it recently with no bad feelings in my gut at all.

I guess I've either grown in some way or degenerated in some way.

Re: Why haven't they released Cruising yet?

I seriously do think long lost movies like Cruising deserve special anniversary DVDS/blue rays these day. After all they were made back then and either they were lost in the shuffle or didnt have a chance at all to be shown at the movie theaters.

Is the old mid 1990s movie KIDS even out for DVD or blu ray? I saw the old VHS of the movie from the pawn shop a couple of years ago.

Makes me wonder what else did actors and Hollywood make of movies like Cruising? Theres even horror movies that got made that they were filming and stuff but then those movies got lost also never to be released.

These days are the perfect time for those types of movies to be released now

It was available on dvd, but it has went out of print. There is a region free German release though. But Cruising is getting a U.S. blu-ray release in August, so maybe Kids will one day too.
