What is the best looking Action Anime?

I've just started watching Anime DVDs, and though I'm not 'fully converted' yet, I do really like beautiful graphics on video. I've seen Ghost in the Shell 2 - Innocence, and was impressed with the video, except it was too 'slow' for me, with little action. Also saw some Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone, and the video here does not compare.

Can you please recommend or tell me what is the best graphical video on Action Anime? Better graphics in GITS 2, and more action, if there is such a DVD. Thanks for the assist!

the first few minutes of Blue Submarine No. 6 are jaw-dropping in terms of merging cell animation with CG (it also has a killer 5.1 soundmix to boot).

Also the artwork for Gatekeepers is pretty amazing as well.

Ninja Scroll
Cowboy Bebop
Outlaw Star

Try this. They might not have CG effects but they have lots of action.
movies like Blue Submarine No. 6 are slow and boring but they have CG.

oh and Supernatural Beast City - not action par se, but ultra sleek animation involving monsters, gore and moderate sex thrown in.

Silent Mobius also features some great action scenes and top notch artwork.

I also recommend cowboy bebop.....great animation/production values/storylines/action.

Giant Robo!

ShagMan 02-17-05 09:52 AM

not "cutting edge", but Akira has some very cool action shots.

You may want to check out the upcomign Appleseed.

I have the R2 dvd and it was incredible. Story could be improved but the action scenes alone are quite remarkable...especially the first 10 minutes.

I was about to say the same thing. I don't really care for anime, but after viewing the trailer from apple.com/trailers, I think this may be the one anime title I'll pick up. The explosion graphics are obviously CG and extremely realistic for any kind of animation. The whole thing looks as though it was done in a kind of 3D as was the MTV Spider-man show.

Keep in mind that CowBoy Bebop will be released soon in a REMIX version with 5.1 audio and remastered video.

Steamboy is another title that has good actions and nice graphics.

The first half of the Evangelion series has some great fight scenes, too.

Maxflier 02-17-05 03:07 PM

Rah Xephon is pretty nice to look at too,if your into the Evangelion/Mecha type stuff.

Spriggan has the best animated action scenes I've ever seen. The budget on this thing was HUGE, and you can tell. The story's just okay, nothing special, but not at all bad. But the hand-drawn animation is some of the best, most kinetic and fluid I've ever seen in any animation, anime, or otherwise.

Now I only have limited experience with Anime, but from what I've seen, it seems to me that the best animation seems to be found in the more dramatic films rather than the action one (e.g. Metropolis).

I'll keep watching though . . . you know . . . just to help you out. ;)

Hello, still looking for more great looking anime movies or tv shows. I am partial to anime in widescreen and action oriented.

My favorites and the few ones that I've seen lately include The Last Exile, Samurai 7, Animatrix, Appleseed, and Final Fantasy VII. I'm not aware of the latest and greatest in new Anime so any tips are greatly appreciated.

Jin Roh Wolf Brigade

You might look into Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. An anime movie, but the storyline and appearance are above average, IMO.

No way that's an action anime. It's a drama with a few, small action set pieces. It's a political thriller, except not thrilling (my opinion).

I would say maybe Blood: The Last Vampire although it has the worst dubbing ever.

bluesilo 03-23-07 03:02 PM

black lagoon and ergo proxy ftw!

canaryfarmer 03-23-07 03:14 PM

GIANT ROBO!!!!

End of Evangelion-make sure you watch Neon Genesis Evangelion first, though. End of Eva is simply gorgeous.

Apone 03-23-07 03:41 PM

I dislike those 3-D computer animated anime especially if there are continuation of a series/movie. If the OP is talking about quality of drawing I too suggest Neon Genesis Evangelion (Platinum Collection for remaster) and End of Evangelion. For the best mecha type of action check out Gundamn Wing it's a long series but story/drawing/action is one of the best.

If Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex doesn't have good enough animation for you then maybe you should give up anime. Ghost in the Shell Innocence has arguably the best animation of any anime ever. People don't just watch anime for the animation, but for the great stories, characters, and music too.

measy 03-23-07 04:38 PM

Egro Proxy, Black Lagoon, and Gankutsuou are the best looking tv series that come to mind. Try Gankutsuou and if that isn't good enough looking then forget all about anime.

measy 03-23-07 04:39 PM

Ergo Proxy I meant to type. How do you edit a post in this forum?
