Second World War - 21 volume set? (3/8/05)

So I'm browsing Amazon's upcoming release lists for March 8th and I run across this series. Here I made a Listamania List for them.
From what I gather, this is a brand new series and from Amazon specs, they're in color and have a run-time of 120 minutes each.

Anybody heard about or seen this series?

Not even Barnes & Noble has any descriptions about these !

It does also come in a single multi-volume set (all 21 volumes) - set for release March 8.

Where do you see the all-in-one listed?

I'm sorry to say, but you wasted your time doing that... a box set is also being released.

If you go to BN and search under "Title" with "DVDs Only" using:

second world war

you get the whole list.

Here's the link to the Box set:

http://video.barnesandnoble.com/sear...Ar&frm=0&itm=6

The "Consice History of the Second World War" (priced at $12.98, so not a whole bunch of disks at that price! ) is a part of the above listed box set, according to the BN Box Set webpage listed above.

BN does have all the 21 disks available separately and listed separately as well.

Oh sure. I'll buy this and then in a couple of months they'll release a Special Edition with 37 discs...

Well, no worries, as I also spent several hours updating my older lists and making new ones. I had some Listamanias that I had apparently done about 3 years ago. Needless to say, they were quite out of date.

Will this 37-disc Special Edition have special features?

I think I'll go for the single volume discs. I figure I may buy one or two to check out the quality and worthwhileness of the series, (They're about $.50 cheaper at DeepDiscount) and then every now and then, buy a few more every now and then until the collection is complete.

I was hoping to find a review of this series somewhere.

Comparing run-times here, I see the classic "The World at War" set lists at 720 minutes for a $109.50 @ DDD or $112.46 @ Amazon.

This "Second World War" set would run $179.97 @ DDD or $190.89 @ Amazon for a run-time of 2520 minutes. And if this set is truely in color, that would be some awesome value.

I'm thinking about buying this set at about 3-5 volumes or so per shot.

A&E's 11-DVD set of "The World At War" has a total running time of about 2068 minutes and is worth every penny. And if you crunch the numbers, "The World At War" comes out as a better bargain:

World At War: 11 discs, 2068 min. (34.5 hours), about $110 = $3.19 per hour

Second WW: 21 discs, 2520 min. (42 hours), about $180 = $4.29 per hour
