New Universal Catalog titles set for release on 5.31.05

Universal has announced the DVD release of more catalog titles for 5/31. Look for Bedtime for Bonzo, The Milagro Beanfield War, The Four Seasons, Dad, The Front Page and House Calls (all SRP $12.98 each). The Milagro Beanfield War will be anamorphic widescreen and will include the Robert Redford: Memories of Milagro documentary. No word yet on extras for the other titles (if any).

Our industry sources have informed us that Universal is currently working on a Flash Gordon: Special Edition for release on DVD later this year, in honor of the film's 25th anniversary

The only title there I'd be interested in would be the Flash Gordon - SE. I haven't even heard of the others.

It's about time.

Keep Hodges away from another commentary, and this thing could be the disc of the year.

They need to do a re-release of Death Becomes Her.

Coming from Universal, would this be the Billy Wilder version of The Front Page?

i'd like to revisit "Dad". it was recently brought up on an episode of Inside the Actor's Studio featuring Ethan Hawke. anyway, i remember admiring Lemmon's performance.

Lets' hope that these are all OAR, with Universal you never know.

Guess they didn't want to embarass Reagan by releasing this while he was still alive. -wink-

Awesome!!!...The Milagro Beanfield War is a must buy for me..it's one of those fun little movies like The Dish or Local Hero.

after recently seeing foolscreen / non-OAR releases (Tank, Ice Man), Universal gets a HUGE :thmbsdwn: from me on their "studio selections".

Milagro Bean Field War and Flash are must buys for me.

I wish BUDDY BUDDY would come out on dvd.

I believe BUDDY BUDDY is owned by MGM since my vhs copy is MGM. But I haven't heard any word on its release. I wish Paramount would rerelease both Odd Couples.

actually BUDDY BUDDY is a MGM movie, so it is now owned by Warner brothers.

Not all MGM movies are owned by Warner Bros. Even though Ted Turner and Sony bought alot of them, MGM still owns alot of their own.

Sweet, I get to add more to my Jack Lemmon/Walter Matthau shelves! Already pre-ordered. :)

To clarify...

Warner owns MGM titles made before 1986 that are not United Artist films (or recent MGM purchases -- such as the Orion or Polygram titles).
Sony owns MGM, so the others now fall under their control.


Buddy Buddy was a UA title. That means that MGM still controls it, hence it is now the property of Sony.
