My only question, Scott, is why do you store your DVDs upside down?
besides judging from what's shown...Lion King's, Aladdin, Tarzan, Toy Story, Nemo, Nightmare Before X-Mas (those r classsics)...those are just my animated and then comedy section (and those are def. not bad at all), but no need to defend myself to a... (fill in the blank).

Mr. Salty...it is just how I started sorting the collection. I like the titles to be seen from right to left. Why is being upside down bad for the DVD's?

They are just having some fun with you. Store your DVDs however you want. It is just that English speaking people read left to right top to bottom, where you are reading left to right, bottom to top (with the spine graphics upside down). Ain't no never never mind.

actually, meant right to left..that is how they are set up and thus have to be upside down that way. actually never realized they were upside down. but seriously, i know horizontal storing is bad, that is why i ask if upside down is bad as well?

I just wanted to point out that the Scorsese commentary on this baby is the same one from the Criterion laser-disc, which is quite possibly one of the greatest informative commentaries ever recorded Mad props to MGM for making this happen.

Thanks for the nice pics - I'm excited for mine to come.

But really, we're down to complaining about something so petty as the type of text used in the insert?!

Nice pics. I sold my previous version in anticipation of this set. The beauty of the slipcase far out weighs the "issue" of the insert. Me Want...

That review suggest that when Raging Bull is bought without the box set, that it is only a single disc version. By all other acoounts, this is not true.

No it's a dedicated, scene-specific commentary all the way, with his editor chiming in occasionally - no DeNiro.

It isn't bad for the DVDs, it's just strange. As has been pointed out, English-speaking people read left to right, top to bottom.

I just got the R2 SE today and the packaging is rather lame as it compares to the R1. They share the same inner cover but that's about it. Thanks for posting this info Scott1598. I love this movie so it's possible that a double-dip may be in order. But only after I can check on the features each edition sports.

I read $15.99 on DVDTalk's Bargain Board. Where did you get the $12.99 from?

I was reading DVD Beaver's review earlier, and honestly, I'm a bit conflicted as to which version to pick up. The image on the earlier non-anamorphic disc looks better to my eyes (I'm in agreement with the Beaver that grain is good), and chances are that I'd likely never actually watch the second disc of extras -- I'm a total packaging whore, though, so it's a toss up here.

What I'm wondering is if the single-disc that MGM is releasing along side the SE this week is going to have the new transfer or is it just a repackaging of the older DVD? I can't afford a widescreen set and probably won't be getting one for quite some time, so the non-anamorphic transfer with the original grain suits me just fine, and it'd be substantially cheaper to boot (no Best Buy or Circuit City in the area). On the other hand, the reissue appears to have the new 5.1 mix, so it's entirely possible that it's just a stripped-down version of the SE's first disc.

If FYE or someone has the old double-sided Raging Bull, I may just go with that...

Does anybody have any whine to go along with this splendid meal of a disc? OH....this guy brought a bottle, sorry. You were complaining, Scott .

I can't imagine the single disc being released wouldn't contain the new transfer...especially since both are being officially released for Tuesday.

However, I do want to verify this as I won't buy a non-anamophic widescreen movie. They look like sh*t on my widescreen display. I have to zoom in on them and it ain't pretty.
