If you thought this was a funny set, why wasn't it funny enough to buy last week? Last month? Last year? |
I have the VHS set of this and am thinking of upgrading to the DVD. I know the final episode is edited to remove the montage of musical guests, but is the next to last episode (only on the DVD) edited as well? Bette Midler performed several musical numbers; were any of them deleted for the DVD?
Thanks. |

I ask myself whenever a popular person dies, "If you weren't going to get the collection before, why now? This person's death is not going to change anything, except for increasing prices and making sure you get ripped-off and rimmed when checkout." |

I have put that M*A*S*H set up on eBay, and it's already going for around $25, which in my eyes sorta makes that Carson set free to me, woohoo.

I don't think I understand the attitude here about buying the Collection now or when it first came out. I bought it when it first came out and I don't think that buying this now "is stupid" nor do I think that people buying it now are sheep. You buy something like this to remember a person after they're dead if you didn't get it earlier -- nothing more or less. The people who bought the set before are not superior or better fans because they got the set last year -- that attitude is just stupid.

Maybe he meant "sheep" in the good sense.
Oh, wait...there is no good sense. It's natural to start thinking about someone at their passing though they you not have been inspired to do so before hand. Their death pushes ones thoughts on them up through the clutter of daily concerns like they otherwise would not have. And then nostalgia comes calling shortly after. I don't find it odd or derisible, but perfectly natural. |

I bought it right after his death, right after I heard about it I went to buy it.
I did so, I suppose for the same reason that people will watch videos of friends and loved ones after they pass. I wanted to relive the moments that were a part of my life, in a way, over the years, as well as witness the moments that I wasn't alive to see. Seems normal to me. |

My God, some people need to get over theirselves, big time.
Bashing someone for getting all mopey and nostalgiac when, say, a Frank Sinatra or a Dean Martin or a Ray Charles dies and running out and buying some of their music just to relive and rediscover it is just blatant, shallow elitism. So you already had some of their music, and even had it playing when you got word of the death... well hoo-freaking-ray for you! -rolleyes- Same with Johnny. He was out of the limelight for years, that's the way he wanted it, and so naturally he falls into shadow. When he dies, it's a testament to his greatness that people stick their heads up and notice. |
Exactly. It's just the way it is, people take artists for granted while they're alive. Just look at Ray Charles, he's never been more popular than after he died.

I saw about 10 copies of the dvd set at my Costco yesterday for $30 each. I would have bought one if I didn't already have it.
