Earth 2: Season 1 (July 19, 2005)

Any word on an Earth 2 DVD release? Not even sure if it made it past the first season but I enjoyed what episodes the show had.

Wow, I would probably pick this up too, no word on it that I know of and probably wont see it. There was 22 episodes and 1 season. The only thing that sucks about these is much like V, you get one season with no ending or anything, dosnt make much sense?

No it doesn't make much sense, but I really like the idea behind that story, and I thought they aliens were pretty cool.

It's about the journey, not the outcome

Good show...would definitely purchase this set if released. Should be no more than a $25.00 set after discount through Amazon.

In mid-February we passed along rumors that Earth 2 was coming to DVD later this year. Today Universal has confirmed those rumors with a formal announcement of a July 19th launch for Earth 2 - The Complete Series! Look for all 21 hour-long episodes (including the double-length pilot) of the single-season NBC series about the journey of Devon Adair (Debrah Farentino) and her band of non-conformists (including Antonio Sabato Jr. and Rebecca Gayheart), who leave their artificial environment in space stations orbiting a dead Earth, and travel to a distant planet, where they begin a new life for themselves.

17 hours of futuristic adventure comes on 3 double-sided DVDs, which will sell for $49.98 SRP. English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo, subtitles in English and Spanish, and video in 1.33:1 full frame. Cover art hasn't made it out yet, but stay tuned and we'll bring that when it's ready.

Yep, that's very cool. Now with that coming out, I'm wondering if Space: Above & Beyond is not far behind, as those two series were kinda related in a way.

Beautiful artwork! I remember watching the first few episodes (since it was touted as a "serious" version of Lost in Space).

Does the series end "gracefully" (ie. is there closure to the story) or does it just end abruptly?

It ends abruptly, IIRC, canceled after the season had wrapped.

This show started out great, but deteriorated very quickly. What a shame. I was glad when it finally was cancelled. It had to be put out of it's misery.

We brought you a pair of news stories on April 27th and April 28th about the July 19th release of Earth 2 - The Complete Series. Now the final information has trickled out from Universal about this release: the extras you can expect on this compilation.

Deleted and Extended Scenes
Outtakes
Bonus Episode: Cleopatra 2525 "Quest for Firepower"
Bonus Episode: Sliders "Rules of the Game"
couple of menu shots..

Those bonus episodes are waste of time and disc space. Especially if one plans on buying the sets that those are on anyway. I'm getting Earth 2 and Cleopatra both, so the bonus episodes are a total waste of time.

I wouldn't mind getting Sliders, but just have a hard time believing that that series only has a mono soundtrack.

It doesn't. It's at least stereo, if not pro-logic surround.

You sure, because every press release and listing on e-tailers show a Dolby 2.0 mono track.

Well, like I said, here's DVD Times report:
Universal Studios Home Video have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Sliders: The Third Season for 19th July 2005 priced at $59.98 SRP. The adventures in parallel worlds continue with Season 3 of this science-fiction TV series.

3 DVD18 discs and 1 DVD9 house all 25 episodes from Season 3 presented in Full Frame with English Mono audio and optional English, French and Spanish subtitles. Bonus features include a gag reel and bonus episodes from Cleopatra 2525 and Earth 2.
and then DVDAnswers report:
Universal has kindly sent over artwork for the third season of Sliders which stars Jerry O'Connell, John Rhys-Davies and Sabrina Lloyd. The four-disc set will be available to own from the 19th July this year, and should set you back around $59.98 in total. Each of the twenty-five episodes will be presented in 1.33:1 full frame along with English Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono tracks. The only extra material will be bonus episodes of Cleopatra 2525 and Earth 2, and a gag reel.
For a series that ran for 5 seasons from 1995 to 2000, it's hard to believe that it was done in mono. I mean even early 90s series had at least stereo surround sound.

You're referencing announcements and artwork which aren't always correct. Take a look at the review on this very site for confirmation on the sound.

Hmm, that interesting. Then I wonder why every announcement for Sliders have always said mono sound.

Well, when the original release information from the studio is wrong, it tends to get repeated since news sources have no other reference until they get it in their hands... and that's where the reviews come in.

You can also check with sites like tvshowsondvd.com for info. They usual try to confirm suspect information with the studios and adjust their listings when they get more accurate info.

If a studio is going to include episodes from another show, those bonus episodes should appear, if at all, on an extra disc shrink-wrapped with the set that you're paying for (which is what Warner has been doing lately).

Also, according to those screenshots, it appears that the Earth 2 set is going to consist of three double-sided discs. Why do I doubt that they're double-sided double-layered?

Oh Universal... *sigh*
