Ghostbusters 2
Got a few questions here that would just take forever to find the answers for using search with my dialup connection.
I was a Ghostbusters fan since the original movie came out. Saw the sequel, watched The Real Ghostbusters cartoon. Bought the first movie on DVD a while back. Now I just grabbed Ghostbusters 2 on DVD, for $9.99 at Target. I didn't see any reviews here. I know it doesn't have much in the way of extras, but how is the movie - video, audio, etc? Is it anamorphic? Extras are nice, but as long as the movie is in good shape, I'll be happy. Is the disc out of production? Is there likely to be another version coming (not counting HD or BR) that would have improvements? I'm leaving it sealed until I know I didn't waste my money. I know it's generally considered not as good as the first, but I saw some of it on TV this weekend that made me think about it, and it has its moments, so when I saw it, I grabbed it. Thanks for the help. :) |
Video quality is pretty terrific, though just having it in widescreen would be enough of an improvement over the horrendously panned-and-scanned broadcast versions. It's a pretty nice anamorphic widescreen transfer, and a passable soundtrack. It's practically got no extras - just cast bios/credits, and a trailer. There are deleted scenes, music videos, and much more that would hopefully be included if it was revisited. On Amazon.com, both Ghostbusters DVDs are out of print. They seem like they could be worthy candidates to revisit; though there's not a great deal to improve on the first film's DVD.
For $9.99, I don't think you wasted your money, but you could leave it sealed and see if a re-release is announced soon, if you're not in a rush to see the movie. |
i'm actually surprised that a superbit version of this and the first one are still not out yet... i own the one you have sealed and it is pretty good, i'd expect a double pack of some sort to go with the rumoured ghostbusters 20th anniversary which should hit shelves within a few months if the rumours are true.

go region free and get the superbits from japan

i would welcome this one...not a great sequel to start, but I'm a fan of the series...wish a third movie script would make its way out...what else is dan akroyd doing these days?
Can't believe with all the merch for the 20th anniversary they haven't put the dvd out yet. |

As for Aykroyd, he is working on The Blues Brothers 25th Anniversary DVD. |
What about The Real Ghostbusters cartoon? Any word of that coming to DVD? As I remember it, it was a hell of a show. I really enjoyed it.

Cool that Bill murray would refuse to do another Ghostbusters and then star in that movie about that elephant he has to drag everywhere...That's integrity...

Dan Aykroyd: Absolutely. Quite an extensive one, with outtakes and interviews. We're contemplating some special appearances around it. I suppose I should have posted that nugget of info when I discovered it. Hopefully the theatrical cut of the film is included. http://www.cleveland.com/music/plain...1008190090.xml |

The film never got off the ground. |
Thank god Ghostbusters 3 never happened. Akroyd was once quite good, but he hasn't been in anything worthwhile for a long time. And Murray just had no interest in doing it. I think he only did Ghostbusters 2 cause they drove truckloads of money to his house.
But I recall those rumors about adding new Ghostbusters, I think Will Smith and Chris Farley were their top picks. Now, I like those guys, but that would've not been the Ghostbusters movie I would want to see. Basically, no Murray, no sale, and these guys are a little too old to really make it work anyway. Better left alone. |

From what I remember reading from magazines,
GHOSTBUSTERS III would have involved Dan Aykroyd training a new generation of Ghostbusters. Among the actors mentioned to fill roles were Chris Farley (until his death) and Will Smith. |
If Harrison Ford can come back and make another Jones. Then so can Murray and the rest. Nothing a little Holywood makeup cant do. But Murray has higher priorities, you see he has to make good films like Garfield that EVERYONE wants to see. </sarcasm>
Screw Murray for just thinking about himself. Ghostbusters made him, the franchise made him. He really POed me off when he spit in the face of all the fans and said "its over get over it". While all the Star Wars fanatics continue to get their precious crappy prequels. |

For a basic movie only release, Ghostbusters 2 rocks. Great picture and sound.

Better to just leave well enough alone. |

i think new ghostbusters would only work if you had the originals in their showing them how its done....plus a grown up oscar.

That also may be an obstacle to the start of a third movie.
