TV on DVD Intro skipping issue
Anyone find it irritating that on dvds that they don't add a chapter skip for the intro. This is one thing that is getting irritating especially if you watch a quite a few episodes in a row. I mean it's pretty simple to add an option to skip the intro of a tv show so that you can start watching it right away. I usually fast forward but I wish these guys would add chapter skip so we don't have to view these intros.

It doesn't bother me. However, what does bother me is when you you watch a TV show and they don't add a "Play All" button(cough.....24.....cough).
|
Yep I agree. How much extra work would it take to add more chapters? Not much. I find this especially irritating in concert dvds with interviews that are stuck in b/w the music which aren't completely separate chapter breaks themselves.

This used to bug me alot. Especially the Sex and the City DVDs, they have a great opening theme, but when you watch 10 or so episodes a night, it can get really irritating.

The simpsons have chapter skip for the intro

I think I started at thread about this about a year ago. Yes it bugs me.
Another thing that bugs me is shows like 24 that put spoilers in the menus. Not a problem if you have already seen it but 24 is a show that has built a huge following on DVD. They should know better. |
My Millennium box sets can skip the intros.
|
Married with children have a chapter after the intro as well
|
Buy the "Dick Van Dyke" show and you'll be set. All the chapters are there.
Plus who do you think DVD's are named after? |
The shows I have: Gilligan and 3's Company don't have the option to skip intros.
|
Quite a few TV sets let you skip the intro. I prefer it that way.
|
I agree, I like to be able to skip the intro/opening theme/ending credits.
I think there's only one series I have that i watched the opening theme every time; Steel Angel Kurumi, the song was just so catchy/cute. Even the Simpsons I skip, and back up a bit to see the couch gag. |
heh. The 3's Company sets released so far doesn't bother me at all. Not only do I enjoy humming along with the silly theme, but I can never get enough of the Suzanne Somers bathing suit belly down shot on the lawn chair.

I find the intros on Star Trek Next Generation to be annoying...mainly for their inconsistency. The standard format of an ep is the setup scene at the beginning, the intro followed by the cut to the commercial break, after which you start the main body of the ep, complete with the title of the episode.
On some eps on DVD, they make the setup scene and the intro one chapter, making the chapter break the commercial time, which is cool, because after the setup scene, you hit next and you start the ep. On other eps however, they put the chapter break halfway through the scene following the intro and commercial break. So you see the setup scene, intro starts so you hit next, realize the next chapter break is in a weird spot and have to rewind back to the beginning of the scene. I didn't realize that until I was watching an ep and realized I had no clue what the hell they were talking about, and only then realized I had never saw the title, only when I rewound did I discover my mistake. Like I said, no big deal, but it is the inconsistency that's the problem. If they all did that, I would know to FF through the intro. |

I really could care less whether there was a play all for the episodes (mainly because I usually take a break between viewing shows back to back), but I wish there were more play all options for extra features. A good example is Babylon 5. There are about 20 "data files" on each season that you have to navigate through, why oh why couldn't they just put a play all for those. Tron disc 2 is another good example. |

Thankfully you can skip the intros on Buffy and Angel. I love the shows, but the themes over and over and over again can get annoying.

I wouldn't want them completely gone because they still serve a purpose. Say I watched a dozen Blues and put the set aside for a month to watch something else, I can just watch a couple "previously on" segments and it is enough to jog my memory w/o rewatching whole episodes. |
I agree, there should be chapter stops after both the "Previously on ..."s and the Intros. And "Play All" features. The Showtime/MGM DVDs I have, Dead Like Me and Jeremiah, don't even have chapter stops after the Intro, and it's quite a pain.
