Eternal Sunshine Release Question

I just ordered the the standard WS edition of Eternal Sunshine on Amazon, but Amazon lists this as a pre-order to be released on February 8, 2005. Buy.com also lists it as a pre-order.

What is going on? Eternal Sunshine was released on DVD late last year! I've seen it in the retail and rental stores.

Just to be clear, I am not talking about the 2-disc collector's edition, which came out a few weeks ago. I am talking about the standard 1-disc edition. This has been out for months.

Are they releasing a new standard edition? If so, what is the difference?

Can anyone explain?

If Amazon has a title up for pre-order that is already out, they usually are doing that because that's when they get a new shipment in. Otherwise, people would be ordering the DVD and getting angry that it was on backorder.

its probaby just a price reduction of the original...but who knows, at this point they probably plan to rerelease it every several months...lol, and double dip us to the most extreme amount possible

Be careful, I believe the 1-disc has a price drop in February, I saw that on a website. Also to drop are Dawn 2004 and Riddick.

nailed it...price drop....why not spring for the 2 discers

Many studios treat price reductions as new release dates and stop shipping any copies until the new "pre-order date". From the time that a title is announced for a scheduled price-drop the title is "on hold" until the pre-order date tied to the scheduled date of the pricedrop. This way vendors are protected from ordering copies at the pre-drop price and therefore helps prevent them from losing moneys...

Looks like Amazon knew ahead of time and let their inventory dry-up and are waiting for the "price-drop" shipment to arrive before filling orders at the new price.

Well, that explains it. Thanks for your help everyone. I guess if I've waited this long, then I can wait until February 8th.

As for why I'm getting the standard edition, I usually get "collector's editions", but in this case, the extra features just didn't seem worth it. I loved the movie, but I don't need additional interviews and I rarely listen to commentaries.

I would like to get the 2 disk set but the case is terrible
