Say it ain't so Apple!

Go here:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

Notice, that if you purchase Quick Time PROFESSIONAL, apple says the following:

1. Play movies in Full Screen

So, the trial and free version only plays that icky Widescreen version.

Numanoid 01-09-05 08:57 PM

They're referring to making the player a full screen player -- hides the controls, image fills the screen (plus black bars if widescreen). Without buying it, you can only get the player to be as large as you can drag the corner, which ends up being about 60% of your screen.

Class316 01-09-05 09:02 PM

umm, no

Full screen in this context means the video will fill the computer screen.

On the trial, movies will be windowed.

speedyray 01-09-05 09:14 PM

I hope you are just making a joke.

Full Screen refers to the size not aspect ratio in this case.

Jackskeleton 01-09-05 09:33 PM

We call Fullscreen fans Foolscreens. What should we call those who are dumb enough to think that Fullscreen always means something bad?

Jesus Tapdancing Christ people.

Click on the words "full screen" on that link and it gives an animated demonstration of exactly what the feature does, complete with a widescreen clip from "Monster's Inc."

In this case, "full screen" means exactly what Numanoid said it means: The video window takes up your entire monitor, hiding the controls and frame.

DVD Polizei 01-09-05 09:36 PM

You guys are too smart.

So, a fullscreen on a widescreen is obviously good. But what about a widescreen on a fullscreen? Or a fullscreen on a fullscreen?

Anyway, I think Apple should word it different. I bet they are wording it so a person actually thinks their entire monitor (4:3) will be used when playing a video.

darkside 01-09-05 09:45 PM

I don't think there is really any confusion. It is the difference between watching the video in a window or using the whole monitor. The movie trailers are still widescreen either way.

Numanoid 01-09-05 09:45 PM

No, they really aren't. The feature does just what it advertises. Just like how windows media player "words" hitting alt + enter as a feature that....guess what...puts the player in full screen mode.

DVD Polizei 01-09-05 09:54 PM

Oh well, at least you guys seem to understand it. I have over 600 movies...in widescreen format, and I was confused for a moment.

Joe Molotov 01-09-05 09:57 PM

I think this is first time this discussion has come up in the history of the Internet. -screwy-

fumanstan 01-09-05 09:58 PM

I've been accustomed to the PC wording of "fullscreen" for awhile. Most media players or what not use that phrasing opposite of running things in a window.

DVD Polizei 01-09-05 10:00 PM

I'm watching the widescreen version of Shrek 2 in fullscreen. It looks great!

Hokeyboy 01-09-05 10:07 PM

So does Infernal Affairs 3 happen before or after Infernal Affairs 2?

DVD Polizei 01-09-05 10:17 PM

Depends on who you ask.

Does Back To The Future 2 happen after the first movie, or before it?

It's actually 'Jesus tapdancing Christ in a chicken basket' -wink-
I don't remember who came up with it.

Rubix 01-10-05 01:22 AM

well eric cartman said it like 2 or 3 years ago

SFranke 01-10-05 01:49 AM

John Belushi said "Tapdancing Christ" in the Blues Brothers 25 years ago, but it was actually John Milton who first used the term in Paradise Regained.

Mr. Salty 01-10-05 02:05 AM

Belushi was my source.

You know, now that you mention it, I may have to pull my "Blues Brothers" DVD out for a spin next weekend.

No, you are wrong, and Neumanoid is correct. "Fullscreen" in this interpretation means fullscreen window, with all other windows covered and controls gone.

Hokeyboy 01-10-05 09:01 AM

Sebastian Cabot was in Family Affair as well as The Jungle Book.

I agree ... they should change it for the "large" population of DVD talk forum members that go into a seizure at the slightest mention of two harmless words joined together.

:P

I think that's pretty much what he meant, nor is he really wrong. It would fill the entire computer screen.
