When a studio discontinues a title it essentially means that they stop taking orders for that title not that the title is being recalled. So it is possible for it to go out of print before the release date. Since distributors order well in advance of the release date, there should be plenty of copies to go around.

This does appear to be the case for the Limited Editions listed this week.... Advanced orders by stores and suppliers seem to have "sold-out" the limited run. However, this hasn't stopped some studios to capitalize on advance sell-outs and press more to fill the pipeline. There should be plenty of copies available for the time being.

Wages of Fear to Be Rereleased in Late 2005
The original Criterion edition of Henri-Georges Clouzot’s masterpiece of suspense Wages of Fear will be taken out of print on May 16 to make room for an all new DVD edition of the film. The rerelease, due out in late 2005, will feature a brilliant transfer from newly restored film elements. Keep an eye on this space for more details in the coming months!

Just so there's no panic, the Home Vision Merchant-Ivory titles (Bombay Talkie, The Bostonians, Heat and Dust, as well as Quartet and The Europeans, which were not mentioned) in the most recent posting are not actually going out of print, just getting a price drop effective 8/2.

Highlander: Immortal Edition
Probably is going OOP because Anchor Bay may be re-re-re-releasing it again, since it seems to have that kind of Halloween/Evil Dead competition on which of the 3 is going to have the most re-releases. This version is pretty good and I plan to make it my last purchase of the movie for the DVD era.
