Box set price drops?
 

Calling all seasoned DVD purchasers! Do box sets (of either movie series or tv series) generally drop in a similar fashion to single movie releases? I was going through the price drop list, and almost every drop is a single title. So, basically, I am looking for any info about the price structure on most box sets. Is a good deal contingent on a particular vendor having a sale? Or is there an actual date for a price drop, because it seems like most box sets sit at the same high price point forever.

Sets seldom drop. Some will, but not all and if they do, it is much more sporadic than singles which have become somewhat expected.

tv box sets seem to stay at a higher cost even more so than movie sets...hopefully we will see some major drops this year....alien box set for 59.99 msrp would be great....then the discount houses could really make it look good

Not much in the way of price drops but they do go on sale sometimes:

-Like when a new season come out
-Top sellers like The Simpsons or Chappele show also go on sale

For offical price drops it seldom.

Some sets drop, some don't, just like movies.

For example, The Beverly Hills Cop movies were sold individually, as well as in a box set. When the single releases were dropped in price, so was the box.

The Superman box set has also had a price drop.

Movies vary, but tv season or series sets are harder to get to be brought down.

i think that is why movie sets drop more frequently....if a movie set is 55 and the 3 disc are 20 a disc but then the 3 singles get dropped to 15 a piece it only makes sense to drop it

since tv shows are not sold episode by episode this does not come into play....you pay for it or you don't get to see it

TV Box Sets usually do not drop in price. Usually the price actually goes up becuase the stores take less of the MSRP. But the sets might go on sale when a new season comes out. Also, lately I've been seeing alot of really good prices on TV Shows, but only for the first season (I'm still looking for season 2 of X-files for under $50).

Be nice if HBO and Showtime would drop there boxsets! six feet under retails for 99.99 here in Canada and thats just the first season.

I have noticed that most paramount Star Trek series box sets actually go up in price.

MSRP on boxed sets does occasionally go down, generally when the MSRPs of the individual movies is reduced. So something like the "Scream Trilogy" or "Crow" boxed sets were initially released with MSRPs of $90 (with the movies having MSRPs of $30), and then when the individual movies received price drops, the boxed sets were reduced down to $40 MSRPs.

TV sets have been slower to get price drops. The only two I can think of off-hand were the X-Files sets, released at $150 MSRP, and then, when the final set was solicited, the MSRPs were dropped to $100. "Dark Angel" seasons 1 and 2 were originally released at Fox's standard $60 MSRP, and then later were reduced to $40.

Considering the amount of discs and content, TV-on-DVD sets are usually a good deal to begin with, so it's probably natural that they come down slower or not at all.

DVD prices don't go up. The prices between stores may fluctuate, but that's the store's pricing. MSRP is the only standard pricing. Which, in turn, influences the price you'll pay at a store.

At Futureshop and Best Buy up here, I have seen The X-Files seasons 1-8 together in a bundle for under 500 bucks Canadian.
