Nothing says "Special Edition" on it, and none were announced as upcoming. Nothing we can do about that , just pick it up and enjoy the movie. We've become so spoiled as DVD buyers... |
I definitely agree that we have become spoiled. :(

The Region 1 DVD of Mulholland Drive has great picture quality but no extras, BUT the Korean Region 0 NTSC DVD is GREAT! The picture looks great and it's got a fair amount of extras, even some interviews with Lynch on the set. I own the Korean version and love it...that and at the tiem when I bought the Korean one, it was actually cheaper to by teh Korean one, unopened, and have it shipped to me, than it was to buy the US version (it was like $29.95 for the US at the time).

Ok, you guys sold me. With my luck right after I buy it, they'll announce tomorrow that a SE will be coming out next week! :(

Solaris (criterion and ruscico have different extras) Andrei Rublev (criterion and ruscico have different cuts, different extras) Eyes Wide Shut (R1 is censored, R3 is uncensored) They Live (R2 has commentary, R1 has better transfer) Prince of Darkness (R2 has commentary, R1 has better transfer) Army of Darkness (R1 is limited edition with 2 versions, R3 has better transfer of director's cut) |

Why bother with the R1 version at all, unless you just want a censored version for completeness' sake? I just stuck with the Japanese R2 (it's cheap, and actually comes in a keepcase now) |

I have to agree i was a bid peeved at the no chapter breaks, imagine not noticing this, popping it in and get about halfway through, then you decide to turn it off to go to work or something, then come home and have to fast forward through it for like an hour or use a time search f(x). But yeah the R1 is kinda lame version. However i'm not sure if it had the alternate covers or if that was VHS only.
|
Yes, there are chapter stops.
Here's a good review of the disc: http://www.lynchnet.com/mdrive/dvdreview2.html |
Anyone have a link to the cheapest and most reliable place to pick up the Korean version?

The US version of "Mulholland Drive" is bare-bones, and without chapter stops. Apparently, this is the way Lynch wanted it released.
The DVD also had two different covers, one with Naomi Watts and one with Laura Harring. The DVD did come with an insert, at least the original release did. It's possible that current pressings don't have it. One side of the insert had a list of "clues" to solving the movie's puzzle, and the other side had one of the two different covers. Since there were no chapter breaks in the movie, it didn't have a list of chapter stops. The inserts seemed to be packed randomly, so there was no guarantee that the one you picked up had the same/different cover on the insert. |
Sorry to bump this old one, again late to the party here, but just wondering if this dvd is a good blind buy? Also, still looks like only barebones in R1, right?
thanks. |
Yup, only barebones but it is totally worth it, especially at the price you can get it for lately. One of my fav films ever, continually keeps you wondering, every time you watch it. Never gets old. Lynch is the master.

Amazing movie, highly recommended for a blind buy.
After watching it, if you decide you liked Lynch's work, you can pick up Twin Peaks Seasons 1&2 next month :D |
