Harold and Kumar - Only 'R' rated at Netflix??! -- False alarm

It looks like netflix is only carrying stock on the 'R' rated version of Harold and Kumar, and not the unrated release. Usually it is exactly the opposite. I was hoping it was a typo, but the copy I received today in the mail only shows an 'R' rating on the paper sleeve, no indication on the dvd itself.

Hopefully this isn't a start of a new trend at netflix.

I'm not sure what the differences are but I think the unrated cut is only longer by about 2 minutes.

The unrated version says "Extreme Unrated" on the disc. I don't subscribe to Netflix, so I wouldn't know about anything.

Finally get Blockbuster to start carrying unrated versions only to have Netflix go the other way?

I doubt it's a trend, but it is curious (just like the decision to not carry the extended editions of the LOTR series).

Maybe, the theatrical cuts are just cheaper? It basically like the same thing as when there are two different versions of a movie, netflix will carry the first version.

After watching it and reading what additions were on the 'unrated' version, it turns out the netflix one is the 'unrated' version, and is just mislabeled.

I've rented several movies of those teen comedies from Netflix I can't think of the names but they are all the same Van Wilder, the one with that chick from Buffy etc etc, & the website says they are the "R" rated versions but when I get them they're unrated. So I think it's a common Netflix mistake, not to worry about.

surfingelectrod 01-04-05 07:06 PM

Do you have a list of the additions?

Matthew Chmiel 01-04-05 07:21 PM

I'm currently watching the DVD right now (before I see a sneak preview of White Noise), but I've only noticed one addition in the "Extreme Unrated" cut. During the Asian party at Princeton, two (VERY FUCKING HOT) Asian girls flash their breasts for some pot brownies. They don't get the pot brownies, but we do get to see them topless. ;)

EDIT: There's also a few more seconds of the strippers with NPH and a brief addition involving the girl who likes Harold and Harold and Kumar's Jewish friends.

I wouldn't worry about it. I saw it in theaters and got the unrated version tonight and the only difference is more boobies. There's pr0n for that, gents.

matthew, let us know how "white noise" is. the movie looks really interesting. (in movie talk.

I just watched it and... did the opening always have the "H&K" song and the shot of H at his desk? Because that really screws up the joke in the beggining.

Other than that, I think I prefer the 'rated' cut. It's just better.
