SIGN "O" THE TIMES (a.k.a. PRINCE: SIGN "O" THE TIMES) has been officially released as a Region 1 DVD (of rather laudable quality, too) by Alliance Atlantis. It is a Canadian exclusive, so it will have to be imported for U.S. consumers, but it is legit, legal and official.
|
Necessary Addition:
THE WAR GAME (1965) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059894/
|
Harper Valley P.T.A.
Chameleon Street |
Up the Academy (Mad magazine movie)
Hot Times at Monte Claire High |
Sandra Dee movies:

Harper Valley PTA is coming out - May or June I think. I saw it on the "upcoming releases" list on DeepDiscountDVD.com
Also Kansas City Bomber will be released in May. I also saw it there at DDD - and have it "saved" for when it's released. Great Roller Derby movie! |
What about the film 20 DATES (1999)?
Looks like there is a region 2 PAL version. [edit] |
Whisper of the Heart (1995) by Yoshifumi Kondo based on a screenplay by Hayao Miyazaki. Does anyone have any news on this one?
|
Well, as you can see from siggy, I'm on a personal crusade to get three films which I love released to DVD. One of them is already on your list, one of them has been announced (again, after the first release mysteriously fell-through), but the third is stilll in limbo...
THE WOMAN CHASER (1999) meets all of you criteria, so please add it to the list. A fine film and one I'll pre-order the day it is announced. |
Long overdue update posted.
Thanks for all the input. Please let me know if you have any additional updates. I haven't been buying as many DVDs (baby and all) so I have not been as anal about keeping up with new release announcements. |
I didn't see A Matter of Life and Death (aka Stairway to Heaven) 1946 on the list.
|
I Come in Peace (titled Dark Angel in R2) with the great Dolph Lundgren has no region 1 release
Also Godzilla 1985 |
Just some unreleased titles to add.... as you can tell, I'm on a Cagney binge after revisiting his films in the Warner Gangster Collection.
Blonde Crazy (1931) - James Cagney, Joan Blondell, Ray Milland Smart Money (1931) - Cagney, Edward. G. Robinson Lady Killer (1933) - Cagney Ceiling Zero (1936) - dir. Hawks, Cagney |
You can add the release date for "Race With the Devil"

Dead Women in Lingerie is seeing release, finally:
PRESS RELEASE MTI TO RELEASE MAURA TIERNEY’S FIRST FEATURE FILM DEAD WOMEN IN LINGERIE Shocking Thriller Starring Dennis Christopher, June Lockhart, Laura Harring, and the Late Jerry Orbach will be available on DVD July 12, 2005! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Miami, FL — (June 7, 2005) MTI Home Video, the leading independent home entertainment studio, will release the thriller DEAD WOMEN IN LINGERIE on DVD July 12, 2005. The feature marks Maura Tierney’s film debut, as well as her first and only nude scene. DEAD WOMEN IN LINGERIE was co-written by the films’ star John Romo and the films’ director and producer Erica Fox (The Christmas Box, Timepiece). The film stars Maura Tierney (ER, Welcome to Mooseport, Liar Liar), Dennis Christopher (It, Chariot’s of Fire, Breaking Away), June Lockhart (Lost in Space, General Hospital, The Big Picture), Laura Harring (The Punisher, Mulholland Dr., Willard), and the Late Jerry Orbach (Law and Order, Dirty Dancing, Crimes and Misdemeanors). Synopsis: A private detective is hired to catch a serial killer who makes immigrant garment workers his victims. The DVD release will be shown in widescreen format, with interactive menus, scene selection, cast biographies, optional Spanish subtitles and trailers. The film will be priced at $19.95 SRP for the DVD. Production notes from writer/director Erica Fox: "It was important to me that the sex scenes with the Nick (Romo) and Molly (Tierney) characters always took place during the day and were beautifully photographed while the death scenes, which are also connected to sex, are all shot in dark or silhouette to symbolize the difference. It was important to me that the character of Molly, was a strong female character; smart and funny and I believe this character was the start of that persona for her. It was the first of many smart, funny characters she went on to play." The film went on to be an AFI Showcase Feature, and was given a theatrical release by AFI. It was also in the OAS/AFI film festival and it went on to the Cuban Film Festival. After the screening the 800 seat theater was emptying, but when they heard the song over the credits, they all sat back down. The song was sung by Fox’s step-sister, Libby Harding (Word of Mouth, Conjunto Jardin) and was a cover of a Silvio Rodriguez song, "Canto Arena." Rodriguez is the equivalent of Bruce Springsteen in Cuba. People were amazed that that song was in the film. DEAD WOMEN IN LINGERIE was the first U.S. film to do a song rights agreement with Cuba. |
Letter From An Unknown Woman. Which studio owns this one anyways?

Please add to the list:
Who's The Caboose? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0179526/) High Strung (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102032/) |
I keep waiting for Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives! to be released on DVD (it's already on the list). It was released on laserdisc, you'd think that if it was popular enough to be on laserdisc it'd be popular enough to be on DVD. Oh well...
|
I keep waiting for someone like Anchor Bay to put out Silent Scream - saw this years ago and still have a crappy VHS version, but it would be nice to have it out on DVD. Seems with all the horror remakes and catalog titles coming out, they would get around to this one.

Another one that is not out yet is Goin' Coconuts with Donnie and Marie Osmond. It's not a good movie, of course, but I do remember it being the first movie that I say on HBO when I was a kid. I have the VHS version from Goodtimes and it is unwatchable due to poor quality.
|
Didn't see The Sundowners (1960) on the list ... surely, it has received at least 5 votes at IMDb ...
|
According to DVDPlanet, Faster Pussycat and Motor Psycho should be out tomorrow.
|
Almost an Angel (1990) hasn't been released yet and I didn't see anyone mention it.
Once Almost an Angel and Robin Hood: Men in Tights are released there will be nothing else out there that I'm interested in that hasn't been released. Still can't believe Men in Tights hasn't been released and movies like Brain Donors, Freaked and Cabin Boy have been released. |
I've been waiting or this one...
Wild Geese, The (1978) Availability: This item will be released on September 27, 2005. |
Hey this is not a big screen movie but what about: Son Of The Morning Star,it was about george custer and the last stand,it's on vhs and that's it.
Would love to see this on dvd. |
how about the original "The Incredible Journey" from disney? I remember seeing the original theatrically (re-release) in the late sixties - early seventies. It would give people a chance to see that disney made quality movies before pixar. this is not to be confused with the remake (ok, but not as good as the original) where they gave the animals voices.

Is it all about money?
My question is, "Why?" Why does every cheap knock-off film that comes down the pike get a near-immediate DVD release when there are hundreds of classics that have yet to see the light of day?
Do we really need three and four different releases of some titles when more than half the films on the AFI list aren't even available? What's up with "The Fountainhead" for example -- an amazing film yet not available in any format. Is someone waiting for Miss Neal to pass on so that a box set can be offered in her memory? Are there politics involved, or is it all about the money? |
The Formula (George C. Scott)

My apologies if this was mentioned upthread, but how about Mel Gibson's Attack Force Z? Been waiting for ages for this one to arrive on DVD.
