X-Files & The 4400 altered on DVD releases?
Is anything changed from FOX's original first-run broadcasts? Recaps, taglines, music (I recall for some reason that the song "Beyond the Sea" was changed), etc.? Due to the price, I've been waiting to get this on DVD, and now that Amazon.com has the first season real low (and the recent price drop this past summer), I'm interested in picking up at least the first season. Any changes in Season 2 or 3? Thanks in advance.
While I'm at it, I might as well ask about "The 4400". Anyone notice any changes from the original broadcasts? Are the "Previously on..." recaps still there? I don't know if all the songs the first season used are there, but anyone notice anything different? I hear the 90-minute pilot is there. I don't have the DVD yet. |
I haven't heard of anything but if they did change something I'll be very happy that I paid the higher price for them. I never paid more than 75.00 for a season and I'm still very happy I bought them as they came out. The wait would of been torture.

Since the X-Files seasons have been available for quite some time now, I'd imagine that if there were any changes from the original broadcasts, it would have been discussed by now - so it's most likely that they are intact.

I agree with Marty, if there had been a change in music or any cuts we would have heard it by now.
The 4400: I just finished the series-great series by the way. The first episode was exactly like the pilot shown on TV. The "previously on" recaps are still there. I believe the original music is there as most TV series are getting the rights for the original broadcast as well as DVD due to the fact that they are released on DVD within a few years if not sooner. |
Actually, there were some minor changes made to a couple of episodes and it has been discussed on these forums in the past.
From what I recall, the changes were in the opening credit sequence which usually ends with the words "The Truth Is Out There". However, over the course of the show's run, there were a few episodes that had a different sentence at the end of the opening credits. Apparently on the DVD's, the opening credits are the generic "The Truth Is Out There" on a couple of the episodes which originally aired with something else there. Minor quibble, I know, but purists picked up on it right away. Since only a handful of special episodes used something besides "The Truth Is Out There", it was always jarring to see a different line used. Sorry I don't have the exact details on which episodes got this credit changeroo, but I know it was discussed in the past. |

it must be an obscure episode because on various commentary tracks or extras they discuss the tag line changes and there were many when i watched the full series on dvd like "resist or serve" etc.

As luck would have it...
"(I recall for some reason that the song "Beyond the Sea" was changed),"
I was watching this episode last night, with a GREAT turn by Brad Dourif as a serial killer that channels the dead, and the music's there. |

The taglines I remember are: The Truth Is Out There Deny Everything Trust No One |
There definely was an omission of an altered tagline in one of the earlier seasons (2 or 3). Too late now for me to research it, but it did happen. Kinda of a bummer but whaddaya gonna do?

My X-mas present to myself: first 6 seasons for $350 during DDD's 20% sale.
So far, I'm very happy with the sets and haven't noticed any problems or alterations. Of course, I'm still on season one. ;) |
Awesome deal!
I'm one of the poor bastards who paid $100 a Season while they were being released. $100 x 9 = $900  |
Amazon has the first season for only $35 right now - that's 65% off.
|
rub it in why don't ya...

Think theres a chance that we'll see $34.99 for seasons 2-9?

Could 'They' be hiding something? This could be an X-File! They are hiding evidence and don't want us to know something. |
