Dvd errors? Please read
 

How can you tell if the dvd your watching has defects or errors or if its just the way the movie is? Ive got 3 dvd players in the house
1.Go Video DVR 4250
2.Toshiba SD-K510
3.Sony DVP-S500D

All have worked great but over Xmas I recieved several Dvd's one on the top of my mind is Spider Man 2 at about 25:05 when Spidey catches the car with his web as they zoom in on the people the picture flickers a bit or studders.

Does this seem normal, Ive also noticed on several fast paced scenes it does this.

i'd take it back and try again........is it the WS DVD or the Superbit?

it is the WS version and Id be willing to take the Spidey back but I also see this on other newer movies, RE 2 , Van Helsing, is there a way to tell if its the dvd or player I mean if it does it on all three players should I assume its the dvd.?

another question i guess would be will this gradually get worse or will it stay the same, I say this becouse its mildly distracting and I may just stay with it as long as it wont get worse?

just strange all 3 players are doing it....if you have pets or smoke in the house you may want to invest in a dvd lens cleaner for 8 bucks....might help, won't hurt

are there dvd-lens specific cleaners? I have one for a psx and it works on a cd player, will it work on dvd? my friend uses the same one on his XBOX. I don't remember where I got it.

yeah maybe Im just being too anal, already tried disc cleaner, and am now checking the discs on another player, RE 2 was on two differant discs same places.

If these lens cleaners include some type of brush on them, throw them away immediately! They will damage the lens of you DVD player. They scratch the lens and cause more damage than they resolve.

Were the players all hooked up to the same TV? You could try connecting to a different television and see if the flicker occurs there.

You could try another copy of Spider-Man 2 and see if the flicker occurs again. Perhaps borrow a friend's copy.

Holy frak! I've used one of those types on my player once or twice. Fortunately, it hasn't damaged the lense from what I can determine.

So what's on a DVD lense cleaner disc that doesn't have a brush?

Well all in all Ive come to the conclusion maybe its just me, Ive barrowed three of the newest discs from my parents and the flicker accurs in the same place on two differant dvd players , so, maybe were just all a little picky about our movies thinking they will be perfect when in fact there not, maybe its a filming issue , maybe its a special effect or maybe its just our eyes playing tricks. But I cant imagine two differant dvd;s on two differant players having the same issue, so maybe thats the way it was meant and Im assuming it should be better.

Ive also been reading another thread about this same issue and relizing maybe Im just too picky and minor glitches are ok.

Is the flicker like a slight stutter? Most dvds nowadays are dual layered, and there's always that slight pause for the layer change. Nobody has mentioned dual layer changes as the possible culprit for the flicker. I sometimes assume it may be an error when i'm watching a new dvd and there's that stutter, but I always check to see the movie playtime to verify that it didn't skip a scene. On some dvds, the dual layer change is stragetically placed at a certain point in the movie so you may not notice the skip at all.

Might be a video processing/deinterlacing issue.

Try boiling the DVDs to remove contamanints and try again.

I've been using compressed air for years....works like a charm.

Gutwrencher has the right idea. The only thing I would advise to someone new using compressed air is to spary it once prior to spraying the piece of equipment, sometime condensation can build up in the straw.

To be honest, I've never had to clean any of my laser oreinted products in the past 23 years.

I never used a cleaning disc. the last thing I want is those stiff little brushes sliding across my lense a few hundie times.

Hi. At what point did you see the problem on RE2 and what did you see? I'll check mine out..
