also nice to see that the Lodger and Hangover Sqaure are getting a re-release not under the noir banner

Black Widow, Daisy Kenyon, and Dangerous Crossing on 3/11/08. Available for pre-order on Amazon. No cover art up yet, but I would assume these will be part of the Fox Noir line.

Actually if you look at the front page of DVD Beaver under the upcoming 2008 releases, they have the covers for the above 3 titles.

The last two covers are lovely. Bravo on Fox for bringing more of these.

I like those covers. It looks like the spines are the same design as the previous releases too. Hooray!

What a great cast.
Unfortunately, it's not too good of a noir.

more preminger titles released on dvd!

So is Boomerang! still comming out? I got a copy at Borders way back when it was supposed to be released the first time but it is an interesting story with the release of it. Amazon has it listed from other sellers with the lowest price being 44.00, I think. Nothing about pre-orders and not listed at DDD while the other 3 titles are.

LorenzoL 01-10-08 06:27 PM

Boomerang is still listed on the Fox Classic website.

Are these the last of the set? I seem to remember that the line was planned for 24 movies.

While I love seeing these old films released by FOX I think they are really stretching the genre out with these releases. Calling them Noir seems to be a bit erronius although I suppose everybody has their own view of the genre. I haven't seen these three films, I admit, but from reading about them I am wondering if others would classify them as Noirs? Black Widow, which is in color, seems to be the most questionable of the lot. As a Noir collector are these worth the blind buy?

domino harvey 02-01-08 09:57 PM

A lot of these titles haven't been "Noirs," but who cares because they can call them musical comedies if it gets 'em released

dom56 02-01-08 10:49 PM

I wish Fox release Cry of the City (1948) right now.

As a quick cursory cut on the noir credentials of these upcoming films, I checked whether they were listed in the Silver & Ward's encyclopedia, Selby's Dark City reference book, and Borde & Chaumeton's index. Y=yes, N=no:

Black Widow: N, N, N
Daisy Kenyon: N, N, N
Dangerous Crossing: N, Y, N*

I have not seen and therefore cannot personally comment on any of the three. For comparison, the previous 3 releases stacked up as follows:

Fourteen Hours: N, Y, Y
Shock: N**, Y, N
Vicki: Y, Y, N

* this 1954 release falls outside of Borde & Chaumeton's 1941-1953 coverage
**but included in appendix of "additional films"

This is my sentiment exactly.

Who cares? If it takes putting these titles under the "Fox Film Noir" banner to be released, then so be it. How else have we gotten the great Dana Andrews during the high point of his career?

For the record, I don't think many of the films released under the "Fox Film Noir" banner are film noir, especially Vincent Price's SHOCK! and THE HOUSE ON TELEGRAPH HILL. But I enjoyed both immensely and was glad they got commentary tracks.

But, the same could be said for other classics released by Fox. People speculated for a long time that THE LODGER and HANGOVER SQUARE would be released as Fox Film Noir, but they were dumped instead under the banner Fox Horror Classics.

Just so they get released, does it really matter? :)

Not really, no. But I'm with View... Release them under the Studio Classics line. This next wave are not noirs. I'm skipping them. I sold Fourteen Hours and stopped with the Fox noirs completely at #20. Also, I personally think SHOCK! is a noir but we could debate that all day and solve nothing. :)

So, I guess Boomerang is still OOP and it looks like it wont becomming out anytime soon? I really wish I knew the whole story on this. I got one at Borders back then but it still intrigues me to find the exact reason.

B5Erik 04-19-08 07:19 PM

They'e sure made it seem like Boomerang's release (re-release? ;) ) was imminent, but it hasn't happened. That's a title I'd get excited about.

They still have several legit noirs to release, so I don't get why these non-noirs are being released unter the Fox Film Noir banner.

I thought it was some kind of rights issue, but I NetFlixed it last week so now I'm not sure...

NoirFan 07-06-08 11:25 PM

DVDAf lists Boomerang, Road House and Moonglow as coming out 9/2. All listed on DVD Empire as well. No word on extras or cover art as of yet. Glad to see this series is still alive.

LorenzoL 07-07-08 08:23 AM

I wonder if the release date for Boomerang will hold up.

NoirFan 07-11-08 07:26 PM

According to Eddie Muller's website, he will be providing a commentary track for Road House.

Road House is great. I saw it at last year's Noir City Festival in San Francisco. It is one of Eddie's favorites according to the introduction he gave it.
